Turkey fully supports Iran's nuclear ambitions

Share:

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Thursday voiced his country’s unwavering support for Tehran’s nuclear ambitions in a meeting with Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, according to an official statement.

“The government and nation of Turkey has always clearly supported the nuclear positions of the Islamic republic of Iran, and will continue to firmly follow the same policy in the future,” Erdogan was quoted as saying in the statement issued by Ahmadinejad’s office.

Ahmadinejad thanked Turkey for its “clear and frank” stance on the issue, the statement added.

The exchange occurred on the last day of a two-day visit Erdogan was making to Iran to discuss the nuclear issue and bilateral ties.

The Turkish prime minister was to hold talks later Thursday with Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei before flying home.

Iran on Wednesday announced that long-stalled talks with world powers on its nuclear program would be held on April 13 at a place yet to be agreed. Tehran says it prefers Istanbul as the venue.

The talks carry hopes of defusing a tense international showdown over Iran’s nuclear activities that has sent oil prices soaring.

Israel has brandished the threat of possible military action against Iran’s nuclear sites, while the United States has put its energies into sanctions and diplomacy but has not ruled out the military option.

Erdogan flew into Iran on Wednesday from South Korea, where he attended a nuclear security summit alongside other leaders, including US President Barack Obama.

Obama told the summit that “time is short” for a diplomatic solution to the standoff with Iran and urged Iran’s leaders to engage in the talks with a “sense of urgency.”

The United States and its Western allies believe Iran is working towards a nuclear weapons capability. Tehran denies that, saying its atomic program is exclusively peaceful.

The last round of Iran/P5+1 talks was held in Istanbul in January 2011 and ended in failure. The round before that, in late 2010, was in Geneva.

Erdogan on Wednesday slammed the bellicose language being directed against Iran, saying: “Military threats against a country that seeks to master peaceful nuclear technology are not acceptable.”

Turkey relies on Iran for 30 percent of its oil imports, and has refused to go along with sanctions imposed by the United States and Europe, saying it will observe only UN-mandated restrictions on Iran.

However, Turkey is also a NATO member, and it has agreed to deploy parts of an anti-missile shield that could be used against Iran, a point that has generated friction in the past with its neighbor.

If the assholes would only open themselves to the inspectors and show that they are building the damn thing as well as can be expected, then no-one would argue about them producing electricity with nuclear – even if it’s stupid with all the sunshine and empty dessert they have. But no .. they have to make it a ‘religious’ issue and prove they don’t have to listen to anyone or have consensus on safety issues. Worse than kids. Which is why I wouldn’t want to live downwind from them.
And if they really ARE building a bomb … then show them what one can do, since they don’t like to read history books.

    1. 5th drawer would your comment apply to israel as well?

Of course. They should also be willing to open up for electrical installation inspections. Although I’m sure the Israelis read the history books.
The only reason we are all still around is that some people decided that MAD was not a really good way to go. (Mutually Assured Destruction would have wiped the planet. Yes they have that much.) And since the hot war didn’t happen, they try to cut it all back. That’s a job in itself. Like getting rid of the nuclear waste from electrical plants. If people can’t think ‘planet’ on this one, they are doomed.
Japan is the only country that has had BOTH experiences now. Well recorded. Watch what they do.

See where information is available … nucleartourist(dot)com … and latest updates of design.
Wonder if Russia gave Iran their Chernobyl design … hmmm …

From that site: (although there are others describing what you need to do to build one in your backyard)
The review process for new reactor designs involves certifying standard reactor designs, independent of a specific site, through a rulemaking(Subpart B of Part 52). This rulemaking can certify a reactor design for 15 years. Design certification applicants must provide the technical information necessary to demonstrate compliance with the safety standards set forth in applicable NRC regulations (10 CFR Parts 20, 50, 73, and 100). Applicants must also provide information to close out unresolved and generic safety issues, as well as issues that arose after the Three Mile Island accident. The application must include a detailed analysis of the design’s vulnerability to certain accidents or events, and inspections, tests, analyses, and acceptance criteria to verify the key design features. The NRC is considering a new rule that would require design certification applicants to assess their plant’s level of built-in protection for avoiding or mitigating the effects of a large commercial aircraft impact, reducing the need for human intervention to protect public.

Israel has never officially admitted to having nuclear weapons, instead repeating over the years that it would not be the first country to “introduce” nuclear weapons to the Middle East, leaving ambiguity as to whether it means it will not create, will not disclose, will not make first use of the weapons or possibly some other interpretation of the phrase.[10] The “not be the first” formulation goes back to before March 11 1965, when a cable from the U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv to Washington noted “The Government of Israel has reaffirmed that Israel will not be the first to introduce nuclear weapons into the Arab-Israel area.”[11] Israel has refused to sign the NPT despite international pressure to do so, and has stated that signing the NPT would be contrary to its national security interests.[12

First if Isreal lets say has WMD . Why do you think the Arab world is still standing, they know if they attack the Jews, within 3 hours 50% of the Arabs would be wiped out. So the arabs lets say are lucky LOL…if the Jews have WMD they keep the distance………yes , maybe think about it…..

Second unlike the Arabs, the Jews do not and have never said they want to wipe the Arabs of the face of the earth.
So if any one of you was the Jewish state in the middle of a ring of dogs that want to rip your head apart and bark this every day, WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE AS A WEAPON, LET ME TELL YOU I WOULD HAVE MORE THAN WMD……. and so would you…..If the Jews can not protect themselves WORLD WAR THREE IS THE OUTCOME……..
