Syrian National Council member Mehye al-Deen al-Lathiqi said Tuesday night that “Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s hope to remain [in power] is similar Michel Aoun’s hope to rule Lebanon.”
“The dream of the Syrian people is to get rid of this tyrant as soon as possible,” Lathiqi said in reference to Assad in an interview with Al-Jazeera television.
Michel Aoun , the leader of the Free Patriotic Movement was defeated by the Syrian army over 20 years ago but now he is a staunch supporter of the Syrian regime.
Aoun is a strong ally of the Iranian and Syrian backed Hezbollah militant shiite group.
Lathiqi added that Hezbollah “is ruining the region [in order] to serve the interests of Iran.”
