The US and French ambassadors to Syria arrived in the Damascus suburb of Daraya on Tuesday to offer condolences after the death of a human rights activist, the Local Coordination Committees of Syria group reported online.
Ghiath Matar was recently arrested and when his body was returned to his family it bore signs of torture, pro-democracy activists said. His funeral was held on Saturday.
An estimated 2,600 people have been killed in the government crackdown so far, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay said Monday.
