Blair backs regime change in Syria, Iran

Share:

Former Prime Minister Tony Blair supports regime change in Iran and Syria but has warned that the West faces a “long and hard struggle to defeat terrorism.”

Speaking to the Times newspaper on Friday, Blair, who oversaw Britain’s participation in the invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq following the September 11 attacks in the U.S., blamed Iran for helping to prolong the conflicts because he said it continues to “support groups that are engaged in terrorism.”

He stressed, however, that he was not proposing military action against Iran, but that he would like to see an end to the regime of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

“Regime change in Tehran would immediately make me significantly more optimistic about the whole of the region,” Blair, who is international peace envoy for the Middle East, said in an interview marking the 10th anniversary of the September 11 attacks.

He also called on the international community to hasten the departure of the Syrian President Bashar Assad, who has deployed troops and tanks in a bloody crackdown to crush a six-month-long uprising against his rule.

“He is not going to lead the programme of change in Syria now. He has shown he is not capable of reform. His position is untenable. There is no process of change that leaves him intact,” Blair said.

you are right, what the hell was bush and blair thinking trying to bring democracy to an arab country, didnt they know that they were dealing with savages who could not be civilized even by force?
they should’ve just turned a blind eye to someone who exterminates his own people like cockroaches.

      1. I disagree with you here for once, Why hasnt America invaded Syria (Asad is worse than Saddam)? Why hasnt America invaded Iran (Who is developing Bush’s famous WMDs and oppressing their people)? Thinking America wanted democracy in Iraq is just plain stupid, because all America did was make the problem 10000x worse than it is. The Libyan Revolution is PROOF that a democracy can be done without Americas interference, if the Iraqis really want Saddam out they wouldve done what the Libyans did. As bad as Saddam was, he still led Iraq in many good places, he raised the bar in education, he protected the Iraqi Christians, produced the strongest Arab army by far which gave the Arabs a lot of pride. Now after Americas invasion all of this has been grounded to absolute zero, congratulations Blair and Bush.

“Why hasnt America invaded Syria (Asad is worse than Saddam)? “… cause they learned their lesson in iraq, trying to civilize the uncivilized will not work, the uncivilized must civilize themselves… hence you got libya where the “rebuilding” is left to the people of libya rather than the taxpayer of the USA, but dont forget all the air support and arms pumped into libya, and by who?. this model hasnt proven effective yet so syria waits meanwhile if they free themselves so be it, but if libya sets up an islamist regime then the whole thing gets flipped again.
“Thinking America wanted democracy in Iraq is just plain stupid” you obviously are gobbling up alot of arab propoganda, are iraqis voting for their representatives today or not? that should tell you something. furthermore the cause was noble the execution was poor(mainly because savages dont want to be civilized), dont get confused now.

I noticed that you have this belief that it is the US’s responsibilty to fix the ails of every damn country in the world, get real, the US helps who the US helps, the others must help themselves, it’s that simple. if all were onboard no one will need to help anyone, but we share the planet with savages.. btw screw the arab pride… it is nothing but war bravada which serves no purpose in the betterment of society.

      I think that’s 100,000 max … I know a figure is hardly relevant in a sense …
But after the ‘pullout’ which leaves it in Iraqi hands (except for ‘advisors’), there is huge increase of deaths … and it isn’t the British planting bombs.
“Iraqi military spokesman Major General Qassim al-Moussawi said investigations found that 60 to 70 percent of the criminal activity is carried out by former insurgent groups or by gangs affiliated with them — partly explaining the brutality of some of the crimes”.

      1. 90% of the killling in Iraq was by the Mossad sponsored Al-Qaeda groups that worked with Blackwater(currently Xe Services).

They set off car bombs and explosions in Sunni, Shiite, Christian and Kurdish areas in an attempt to let the Iraqis kill each other. They even assassinated 580 Iraqi scientists, engineers and academics for refusing to work with the occupation forces.

Israel even sent teams to train the Kurdish and PKK in Northern Iraq.

hmmmm haven’t we forgotten the fact that irana and USA went to bed together over Iraq?

funny no one mentioned anything about irani murshed being a mossad THEN!

      2. Him and Bush started the dominoes, i dont care if he didnt plant the bombs, he gave a reason for those people to do so.

      3. It’s 1,000,000 people. This is from a website: “The rate of suicide among US troops has more than doubled since 9/11. For civilians, the cost of war has been especially high. While estimates vary, British medical journal The Lancet suggests that a minimum of 655,000 Iraqi civilians were killed during Operation Iraqi Freedom.”

All this is because of the bogus Israeli intelligence that they sent to the US regarding Iraq. If the 19 hijackers were almost all Saudis then why did they invade Iraq? Saudi Arabia is the number one sponsor of Al-Qaeda in the Arab world yet nothing happend.  It’s like someone blaming the US for attacking Iraq and then doing a terrorist attack against Mexico.
