Safadi: Lebanon Treasury can’t afford Aoun’s energy bill

Finance Minister Mohammad Safadi said in remarks published on Tuesday that the Lebanese Treasury is unable to afford the $1.2 billion dollars requested by the Change and Reform bloc ( which is headed by MP Michel Aoun ) for its draft energy bill.

“We currently don’t have the ability to spend $1.2 billion,” he told As-Safir newspaper.

The parliament earlier in August rejected the draft law proposed by Aoun to transfer $1.2 billion in funds to the Energy Ministry. The cabinet has been discussing the draft law and there are indications that a compromise may be reached during Wednesday’s cabinet ,meeting
