Al Jumhouriayt newspaper has revealed that US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Jeffrey Feltman did not bring any initiatives with regards to the formation of the Lebanese government and that he came to explain the contents of the last speech of president Barack Obama on US policy in the Middle East.

“During all his meetings he stressed the importance of taking into account the aspirations of the young people who are protesting and demanding freedom in the region . As far as the Lebanese cabinet was concerned all he wanted to know was why the cabinet has not been formed and what is preventing its formation. “The paper said

The paper added that “Feltman had no plans to meet with MP Walid Jumblatt . The only people he wanted to meet were President Michel Suleiman , PM designate Nagib Mikati and Speaker Nabih Berri. It was Jumblatt who asked for the meeting and Feltman obliged because he considered Jumblatt a personal friend and a former ally of the US”

The paper said Feltman was angered by Jumblatt’s leaks about their meeting and for quoting him out of context and specially because some of that information was not correct . Feltman felt that Jumblatt tried to exploit his meeting with him for petty scores in internal Lebanese politics.
