The Lebanese Customs Office has revealed the latest data about Lebanon’s agricultural foreign trade in 2010. Exported volumes increased by 10.5%, for a total value of 194 million dollars, an upsurge by 26% over 2009.
The agricultural sector has a share by 5-7% of the Lebanon’s GDP and employs about 20% -25% of the workforce, directly or indirectly.
Lebanon imports a significant amount of agricultural products required by the local demand: in 2010 agricultural imports had a value of 1.7 billion dollars (+12.9% on 2009), which is about 9 times the value of exports.
