Gemayel calls on Mikati to make up his mind over STL

During an interview with MTV , Phalange party MP Nadim Gemayel called on Prime Minister –designate Najib Mikati to have a “clear stance” regarding the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL).

“The Phalange Party will not take part in any cabinet , headed by Mikati, as long as the PM-designate does not make up his mind over the STL,” Gemayel said

The Iranian- and Syria-backed Hezbollah brought down PM Saad Hariri’s government on January 12 over the Special Tribunal for Lebanon’s ( STL) indictment which is widely expected to implicate Hezbollah members in the assassination of former PM Rafik Hariri in 2005 .

Mikati, backed by Hezbollah and its March 8 allies including MP Walid Jumblatt , was appointed last Tuesday by president Michel Suleiman as PM-designate to form and head the next cabinet , giving Hezbollah and its allies increased leverage in the country and provoking widespread protests.

The March 14 alliance is demanding that Mikati, a political moderate with good ties to Syria, guarantee he will not disavow the tribunal.erned with the tribunal, ” the son of the slain former president Bashir Gemayel said

    Good luck with that! he won’t make his stance clear now. then later some HA MP will introduce a law to see if the majority want to drop the STL or continue supporting it. Since he owes HA big time and the majority will be HA, therefore they will drop the STL and he will come out and say. Well i tried but the MP’s all wanted it gone and there is nothing i could have done.
    Its so clear what is going to happen no need to bother. But if the March 14th are the opposition and if only 10 MP rejected the request. Then March 14th will be stupid not to join the gov’t in order to stop such request..Seems so simple yet March 14th seems to be complicating it..
