Lebanese Forces bloc MP Antoine Zahra on Wednesday said in reference to the arrested FPM official Fayez Karam that Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel kept his relations with Israel:

“Aoun kept his relations with Israel even after the Taif Accord was established, as we have been able to find out from people close to him who were arrested over collaboration charges with Israel ,” he said in a statement issued by the LF.

Commenting on Aoun’s Tuesday attack against Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea over relations with Syria Zahra said:

“We support good relations with all Arab countries whereas Aoun sticks to one relationship…. with Syria,” Zahra added

Karam, a senior Free Patriotic Movement (FPM) official, was arrested by the Internal Security Forces (ISF) – Information Branch last August and was charged with espionage and providing Israel with information on Hezbollah, FPM leader Michel Aoun’s closest ally.

The head of the Lebanese Permanent Military Court Brigadier General Nizar Khalil announced on Dec 23 that January 8, 2011 will be the starting date for Karam’s trial on charges of of spying for Israel.

Karam and Aoun went into exile in France following Aoun’s defeat by the Syrian army in 1990 and both returned to Lebanon in May 2005 , 11 days following the withdrawal of the Syrian army from Lebanon.
