Amal movement ministers insisted on discussing false witnesses issue

The Lebanese cabinet held a meeting today at the Baabda Presidential Palace. Prior to the session President Michel Suleiman and PM Saad Hariri held a closed door meeting.

The cabinet had 58 items on its agenda and planned to resume the discussion on the draft 2011 state budget, according to local reports.

Amal ministers threatened to walk out of the Wednesday evening cabinet session unless the issue of false witnesses is brought up.

President Michel Suleiman promised the Amal ministers to address the issue at the end of the meeting, according to local reports.

The cabinet’s agenda was scheduled to end around 7 p.m., after which the ministers planned to address the issue of false witnesses, according to local reports

The cabinet delegated Justice Minister Ibrahim Najjar on August 18 to follow up on the issue of witnesses who gave false testimonies in the investigation of the 2005 assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.

March 8 coalition ministers will bring up the issue of false witnesses during the Wednesday evening cabinet session, Health Minister Mohammad Jawad Khalifeh, a member of the Amal movement told reporters before entering the ministerial meeting.

Khalifeh added that the issue of false witnesses has become more important than before.

    It is really beyond me how a health minister is getting involved with the false witness issue. isn’t he supposed to be dealing with issues like safe potable water, free Flu vaccines to all, Cancer screening and free health care funding for the poor? Go figure!

      Surprisingly, you sound so shocked that a health minister would address political issues at a cabinet meeting. There is nothing idealistic about Lebanon or its political leadership. Don’t you remember Minter of tourism, Marouni (previous cabinet) and his political statements? He said very little regarding tourism ,or the promotion of tourism in Lebanon, But he always found enough time to talk about the election ,and Bash Aoun and HA .
      Since when, our cabinet discuses service issues that are of any concern for the public?
      Only when people are protesting, the cabinet forms committees to push issues away from the spot light.

        Yeah and what the Iranian party representative in Lebanon are doing except threatening with the sword !!!!! what they are doing other than talking about cancelling the STL, why they don’t get busy and tell their followers that stealing electricity and not paying for it is Haram and not Mhellal!!!!! or at least Import the power from the Iranian mullah for free !!! through Syria and stop protesting in streets for lack of power that they don’t pay for it, Walla wakeha ma sar metla baad !!!!!!
