Edgar Maalouf a Lebanese American who was a former member of the US mission at the UN and who ran for the Catholic seat in the Shouf area in the last Lebanese elections said US president Barack Obama is very serious about his support for Lebanon and that the US administration can pressure Israel to withdraw from occupied Lebanese territories .
Responding to PSP MP Wael Abou Faour who called for cancellation of UN SCR 1559, Maalouf said : I am surprised to hear Faour’s statement and said : “No one can can cancel 1559 including the United States “adding: “This resolution is the base for several other UN resolutions that were issued and it cannot be canceled unless all resolutions that are based on it are fully implemented and canceled
