More than 50 people were arrested at a peaceful, pro-Palestinian protest Wednesday at the University of Texas hosted by the Palestine Solidarity Committee, a registered student group and a chapter of the national Students for Justice in Palestine, which held the rally to call for an end to the Israel-Hamas war.
Protests have broken out at colleges and universities across the country in connection with the war in Gaza. Thousands of students have been arrested according to reliable sources.
Many pro-Palestinian protesters are calling for their colleges to divest of funds from Israeli military operations, while some Jewish students on the campuses have labeled the protests antisemitic and said they are scared for their safety.

Nicolas Pelham the Economist’s Middle East correspondent said in a tweet in which he commented about the protesting pro-Palestinian students who are being arrested for condemning the Gaza genocide and calling on universities to divest themself from US companies who are helping Israel in its genocide by sharply rebuking PM Netanyahu’s claim that campus protests are antisemitic.
He said Netanyahu should be the one who should be arrested and not the students
It is important to note here that the Palestinians are Semites too like the all the Jews and Arabs
The student protests — some of which have turned into around-the-clock encampments — have erupted throughout the nation following arrests and student removals at Columbia University in New York City. Students at schools including Yale University, New York University, Harvard University, University of Texas at Austin, University of Southern California and more have launched protests.
Fifty-six people have been arrested at the New School and New York University where the schools have authorized police to clear encampments, according to the New York Police Department.
In Oregon, Portland police say that at least 30 people have been arrested over their involvement in ongoing protests at Portland State University.
“Additional arrests have been made at PSU’s library after trespassers illegally entered the building again despite efforts to secure it,” police said in their statement.
