Russia delivers first part of S-300 defense system, Iran says

s300_missileRussia has delivered the first part of an advanced missile defence system to Iran, Iranian media reported on Monday, starting to equip Tehran with technology that was blocked before it signed a deal with world powers on its nuclear programme.

The S-300 surface-to-air system was first deployed at the height of the Cold War in 1979.

In its updated form it is one of the most advanced systems of its kind and, according to British security think tank RUSI, can engage multiple aircraft and ballistic missiles around 150 km (90 miles) away.

Russia’s agreement to provide Iran with S-300 has sparked concern in Israel, whose government Iran has said it aims to destroy.

In a recorded transmission, state television showed Foreign Ministry spokesman Hossein Jaber Ansari telling a news conference on Monday: “I announce today that the first phase of this (delayed) contract has been implemented.”

Ansari was replying to reporters’ questions about videos on social media showing what appeared to be parts of an S-300 missile system on trucks in northern Iran.

Russia says it cancelled a contract to deliver S-300s to Iran in 2010 under pressure from the West. President Vladimir Putin lifted that self-imposed ban in April 2015, after an interim agreement that paved the way for July’s full nuclear deal.

The U.S. military has said it has accounted for the possible delivery of the S-300 to Iran in its contingency planning.

‘Hello. Parts Desk? We got only half the nuts and bolts in those kits, and none of the wheels. What do you mean, ‘Back-Order’??? The USA gave you a lot of time to have the order ready … OH, oh OK .. we understand. Computer Errors.’ (damn … people can’t enter info into computers properly any more …)
‘Slight delay, El Supremo … do you have the number of that guy running IKEA??’

Try getting something from Homeo Depot that is on their ‘net-site’ but not listed in their store computers … hehehe …

I always preferred RONA …. one could buy a single nut of bolt there … but apparently they are being bought out too. 🙁

          2. Now I understand that you are the DIY type, “RONA has the best articles and products for your renovation, construction, and home decoration projects.”

We have the HORNBACH and BAUHAUS that you can buy a single nut or bolt there, packages of 10 pcs……

Hate when I need to buy more than needed … or have to guess on a size to fit to something else … Rona has a ‘test-board’ to size a nut or bolt on … then bins with singles.
GOOD OLD days, had a Local Hardware Family in a small store that still seemed to have anything we needed … or they would get it for you. Bought my 1/2-horse DRILL there 50+ years ago… still have it … steel gears, gearbox is greasable … sucker will twirl you around if you’re not anchored .. or rip your arm off .. hehehe … meanwhile, been through at least 3 or 4 ‘modern’ ones.
And yes, I hate paying for someone else’s ‘time’ if I can do it. So I do everything …
Hired a plumber ONE time … and he didn’t get it ‘right’ … ie. as asked for.
I admit getting under the car has become a problem … or more often, getting out and back up again … :-)))) … BUT I NEVER MADE close to $150/HR … So I figure it’s still worth it, even if slower, when I have a ‘shop’ handy. 😉

          4. Unfortunately the GOOD OLD days aren’t coming back. :-[
It’s the same with me, I can not “throw” stuff that works though it is from the 70s. Today’s stuff lasts as long as the warranty (addons five extra months if you are lucky …)

I never buy more then I need, then it is then at the checkout they weigh the two bolts or screws I buy…..

You are pointing the “Stopped ‘rebuilding’ computers”, the same goes with cellphones (smartphones…).. they have become ‘throw-away’ items these days.
Earlier I repaired my own car, today I own a ‘multimedia’ on four wheels.
That is, if you do not acquire a veteran car that costs more than one of these ‘rolling’ multimedia vehicles. 😉

    2. “the number of that guy running IKEA” must be somewhere in China – everything in IKEA is Made in China…..

  2. Not really a game changer anyways, but Russia is dragging its feet as usual. Need to keep them mullahs wanting and waiting. S300 must be the longest running delivery date ever.

Who’s the person in charge of translating stuff into English over there? Hind Abyad (sighs in exasperation)?
