The majority of drinking water supplied to Lebanese households doesn’t meet the minimum safety standards, the Ministers of Health and Industry announced last week according to a report by An Nahar newspaper

In a joint news conference, Health Minister Wael Abu Faour and Industry Minister Hussein Hajj Hassan outlined the latest efforts to regulate the operations of private water bottling and distribution companies across Lebanon.

“The decision taken two months ago to shut down businesses that don’t meet sanitary standards followed tests showing that more than 80 percent of water sold did not conform to the required standards” said Hassan.

Both ministries had given companies selling drinking water a deadline to apply for licenses in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Companies would only receive their licenses after teams from both ministries inspect factories to ensure that operations are in line with the set guidelines.

“The company that fails to meet the requirements shall be given a notice in order to fulfill the necessary conditions, while those that did not apply for licensing will be closed,” said Faour.

One hopes that ‘Across Lebanon’ MEANS ALL of Lebanon.
Health Minister Wael Abu Faour continues to fight the ‘one-man battle’ against virtually EVERYTHING that is wrong about the country, and it’s lack of ability to govern; or to teach anyone anything either. Bad enough that no-one has trusted the water that flows from the taps for many years. But now even the water that EVERYONE must use for drinking, and pays premium prices for, is also suspect?? I would say that an ‘Industry Minister’ is also not capable, if his ‘industry’ is pumping out up to 80% of dangerous qualities of the #1 NECESSITY of animal life.
We thought using sawdust to ‘bulk up’ the Labneh was bad enough. But maybe the sawdust was germ-free.

A ‘deadline’ to ‘comply’?? I suppose the ‘reasoning’ is that the #1 NECESSITY of animal life can’t be shut off completely … we’ll let the people take a chance for a bit longer, and hope they don’t all die from the water instead of from the lack of it. ‘Slightly iffy’ supplies could be handed out at ‘cut-rate’ prices … maybe to the refugees instead of to the citizens, however.

We all know we are ‘out there’ writing in here, for sure. If one collects enough ‘single-line’ thoughts, and correlates the pile to be able to make a definitive statement, however, it’s better than only putting in the one-liners, and saves a lot of page-space. We may do it on occasion, of course, but carrying it on incessantly, to be able to say one got in a ‘last word’, becomes slightly tedious after a while for the readers. 😉

Or if one can throw several cans of alphabet soup hoping for a few words to appear.

Having said that, do I speak to Hind or (you in secret).
