March 14 official Fares Soueid said during a meeting with Mufti Malek al Shaar in Tripoli on Wednesday that “whoever killed Hariri and Gemayel belongs to the sect of killers and do not belong to Christian or Muslim confessions.”
This was understood to be in reference to the Shiite Hezbollah militant group which was accused of being behind the assassination of former Lebanese PM Rafik Hariri and former Industry minister Pierre Gemayel.
He was reportedly also referring to Hezbollah’s involvement in the Syrian civil war.
Hezbollah fighters have been helping the the Syrian regime of President Bashar al-Assad in its crackdown against the mostly Sunni rebels seeking to overthrow the regime.
