large explosion ripped through tunnels controlled by the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine- General Command ( PFLP-GC) near the coastal town of Naameh south of Beirut, National News Agency reported.
The explosion, which took place on Tuesday night, was followed by intense gunfire that targeted the nearby valley, according to the report.
The report, however, did not elaborate further on the circumstances surrounding the incident.
PFLP-GC is an extremist Palestinian militant organization that is based in Syria and closely associated with the Syrian regime.
Unlike other Palestinian groups in Lebanon, the PFLP-GC has extensive military assets outside of the camps. Naameh and Sultan Yacoub in the eastern Beqaa Valley, about a mile or two from the Syrian border are its two largest bases.
PFLP-GC , designated terrorists by the United States and others in the West, was most active in the 1970s and 80s but retains influence with Palestinians in Syria and Lebanon.
