PSP to propose an initiative to avert strife in Lebanon,report

Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblatt and his ministers in the cabinet are reportedly planning to launch an initiative to to avert strife in Lebanon.

The initiative which will be presented to March 14 and March 8 camps will call for participation in the national dialogue talks, agreeing on an electoral law for the 2013 elections, forming a national salvation cabinet and ending the March 14 boycott of the parliament , according to a report in the An Nahar newspaper which was based on an interview with Public Works and Transportation Minister Ghazi Aridi.

“All politicians will be briefed on the content of the initiative through PSP delegations that will visit them,” Aridi, who reiterated the call for dialogue told the Voice of Lebanon (93.3) radio on Sunday.

Last Month, March 14 opposition coalition announced that it was cutting all ties with the current government of Najib Mikati following the assassination of Lebanon’s Internal Security Forces intelligence chief Wissam al-Hassan on October 19 in Beirut’s Ashrafieh district

Lebanese president Michel Suleiman has been calling for resuming the national dialogue talks in order to agree on a defense strategy .

The cabinet approved an electoral draft-law last August which divides Lebanon into 13 electoral districts based on proportional representation. But the parliament has so far failed to approve, since it was rejected by March 14 and Jumblatt.
