Suleiman’s speech

In his speech President Michel Suleiman praised the Lebanese army’s decision to sue Akkar MP Moeen al-Merehbi for attacking the military establishment and insulting its chief Gen. Jean Kahwaji.

He said the army is a fair and capable force that works in accordance with the law and “accepts being held accountable through legal means.”

The military “protects and does not attack, it builds and does not destroy.” The president added.

He called for steering Lebanon clear of the policy of regional axes and conflicts.

He also refused turning Lebanese territories into a corridor for arms and gunmen and said the state will reject forcing the army into giving up its duties in any part of Lebanon.

Addressing the sectarian tensions, the president called for political coexistence and rejected mini states spread on the sidelines of the Lebanese state.

Addressing the controversial issue of national defense strategy, Suleiman said the strategy should be based on the army to confront the enemy’s plots against Lebanon.

This particular issue has been a high source of contention between the Iranian and Syrian backed Hezbollah and the Arab and western backed March 14 opposition which calls for strengthening the state by integrating the party’s arms with those of the Lebanese army.

That should be the natural outcome of nationa serious dialogue, the resolving od non state arms , the forceful disarming of Hezbollah, as this party will not give its arms voluntarily, all lebanses people should rise same as in sidon sit=in and force those Hezbollah bastrds to hand their weapons to the state, to the Lebanese army who represent all people in Labanon and very much capable of defending Lebanon against Israel and border incursion vioilations carried out by syrian regime forces. Any dialogue that does not adress and achieve disarming Hezbollah will be nonsense and waste of time. Allah willing we poeple in lebanon who want s peace and stability and strong state will disarm Hezbollah voluntarily or by force.

It’s that ‘or by force’ part that could be the worst part of your thoughts. No thinking Lebanese wants to go back to civil war.
Do you think they could be embarrassed into doing it voluntarily instead? They have already shown how out of touch they are with the aims of humanity, when you consider that they try to back up a regime like Assad’s which creates atrocities even on children, and now so much carnage on the defenceless of Syria, that really everyone should be calling out ‘SHAME’ and at every chance pointing out the errors of their ways.
The arms everywhere may have been necessary when Syria had removed them from the Lebanese army, but the only reason for a militia now to be armed like Hezzys are is pure and unrealistic hatred for Jews, and a dead theory that Israel wants to take over the reduced and sadly polluted Litani River.
Lebanon only needs to be funding one military which represents and helps the whole country. Everyone should be paying their electric bills and taxes, and funding only the LAF for service to Lebanon.
      Shame, shame, shame.
