The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said Wednesday that more than 15,800 Syrians have been killed in the Syrian government’s 15 month assault on protesters opposed to President Bashar al-Assad.
The organization urged United Nations monitors to end violence in Syria or leave the country.
“The role of the international observers has become that of a witness to murder,” the Britain-based watchdog stated, condemning the recent spike in violence despite their presence.
The organization said that violence escalated in June resulting in an average death toll of 100 a day
The chief of The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights Rami Abdel Rahman told AFP that the actual number of Syrian killed since the uprising in March 2011 is 15804.
Rahman said that 4681 have been killed since the ceasefire and 1197 killed since the UN observers decided to suspend the operations
Rahman added : “It appears the Syrian regime has the green light from a world power to kill” , without naming the country.
