The Syrian General Security prevented Syrian nationals aged between 18 and 42 from crossing the border into Lebanon, NOW Lebanon’s correspondent reported on Monday.

“The implementation of the decision caused confusion at the border and forced thousands of Syrians to return to [their country],” Lebanese truck drivers who crossed the border into Syria also told NOW Lebanon’s correspondent.

They added that the Syrians who wished to enter Lebanon had to take permission from the Compulsory Military Recruitment department in Damascus in order to be allowed to leave the country.

Thousands of Syrians have fled the unrest in their country, which according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has left over 9,100 people killed since protests erupted in strife-stricken Syria in mid-March 2011.
