400 Syrian refugees entered Lebanon since last night

MTV reported that more than 400 Syrian refugees entered Lebanon’s Wadi Khaled area since last night as fears grew of an “invasion” of the besieged protest hub of Homs.

The Syrian National Council, the country’s leading opposition movement, had warned earlier of a potential bloodbath at the hands of the Syrian regime in Homs.

Across the country, reports of deaths mount almost every day.

The death toll on Sunday has reached at least nine, according to the opposition Local Coordination Committees of Syria.

The dead include four people in Hama; two people each in Homs and Idlib; and one person in Daraa. At least one of the fatalities was a child, said the LCC, a network of anti-regime activists in the country.

The Syrian National Council warned Friday of an impending government “massacre” designed to crush activists in Homs, which has emerged as a center of anti-regime unrest.

“Evidence received from reports, videos and information obtained by activists on the ground in Homs indicate that the regime is paving the way to commit a massacre in order to extinguish the revolution in Homs and to discipline, by example, other Syrian cities that have joined the revolution,” the council said.

More than 5,000 people have been killed in Syria since the uprising began, according to a tally by activists which is believed to be used by the United Nations.
