Hariri: Hezbollah arms changed the results of 2009 elections

Share:

During a live interview with MTV on Tuesday former PM Saad Hariri who is currently in Paris due to security reasons told the station: “hopefully the next interview will be in Beirut. I shall return to Beirut soon.” He told Hezbollah chief that even 300 press conferences will not be able to change the course of the Special tribunal for Lebanon.

He said :

The Future Movement ( which he heads) and the March 14 coalition are strong. We have struggled for independence, for achieving the truth. We won the 2009 parliamentary elections although the use of arms changed the results of elections afterward. This is a possible reference to the defection of MP Walid Jumblatt and PM Nagib Mikati and their blocs to the March 8 alliance. Both Jumblatt and Mikati were elected by March 14 voters in 2009 elections. Their defections tipped the balance in favor of the Hezbollah led March 8 alliance .

Hariri said he decided to stay away during the process of government formation, the drafting of the ministerial statement and the vote of confident parliamentary session adding that there have been threats against him since 2005.

“There are people who tell me that they want me to be back as a target, but there are also people who do not want me to be back in Beirut.” He said

He said he decided to speak up to put an end to the rumors that are floating around

” I decided to speak up in order to put an end to the distortions taking place regarding all matters.”

Responding to Hezbollah’s chief speech following the confirmation of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon indictment of Hezbollah members in the 2005 assassination of his father former Pm Rafik Hariri , he said :

If Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah holds 300 press conferences, he will not change anything about the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) indictment.

– If I was still the country’s PM , my cabinet would have made efforts to search for the four suspects indicted by the tribunal.

– Some are [accusing] us of provoking the international community. We are not. The press conferences held by [March 8] parties are the ones that incite the international community.

– [The cabinet] might cooperate or might not cooperate with the international community, but in the end, Lebanon will pay the price.

– The STL is there and no one can bring it down.

– Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah stood behind the four indicted men. Why? Those are individuals [charged by the STL].

– There is no stability without justice. Let Hezbollah put itself in our shoes. Don’t they have martyrs? Don’t they consider Hezbollah slain official Imad Mugniyah to be their martyr? Where is the truth behind his killing?

– For the first time in Lebanon a tribunal is being established to try the murderers of politicians. Who is threatening stability?

– The indictment has been released. Did instability occur in the country? What happened?

– Neither Saad Hariri nor anyone in the Future Movement or March 14 is allowed to accuse a certain sect in the killing of Rafik Hariri .

– I want to ask you a question, why did the March 8 ministers resign [from my cabinet in January 2011]? Didn’t they do so because of the [issue of the] witnesses who gave unreliable testimonies [to the international commission investigating Rafik Hariri’s 2005 assassination?]

Saudi Syrian talks

– I supported Saudi-Syrian talks to end disputes in Lebanon truthfully and for the sake of Lebanon.

– I do not want to rule. I am very relieved that I am not taking part in it. I wanted reconciliation. Those who want to rule are the parties who did everything [to force the collapse of my cabinet], not me.

– We want a mechanism to disarm non-state parties, including those of the Palestinian factions.

– If there is nothing there to serve Lebanon, then I do not want to rule.

– I wanted to build a state, not a statelet, like what the current cabinet is doing.

– I knew deep inside that some parties in Lebanon were maneuvering to foil Saudi –Syrian talks and bring down March 14.

– When I negotiated, I was bearing something that was bigger than I am, and I never knew that this will break my back. I knew I was losing political and popularity.

– Nasrallah is the one who rejected the Saudi-Syrian talks.

– Rafik Hariri stood by the [1989] Taif Agreement. What we have is our truthful word and honesty.

– We offered our hand to cooperate with the others.

– The main problem in the country is [the use of non-state] arms.

– I engaged in serious dialogue [with March 8 parties], but next time I will do it on camera and in public so that they won’t accuse me of selling my father’s blood.

– Arms have become Hezbollah’s problem and our problem with Hezbollah.

– Within March 14, we will not remain silent [about the arms issue]. I will never be separated from my allies in March 14.

– Let us implement the Taif Agreement. All I am saying is that throughout the past six years, despite our disagreements with parties, which happen in a democracy, the use of arms [has allowed some parties] to impose their will on others. We reject the logic of power-use.

– They either order us to abide by their will or they label us as traitors and Israelis.

– The Future Movement is the only movement that is not sectarian. I defy anyone in the March 8 parties that is like that.

– For us, the killers of [Rafik Hariri] are murderers, and not a sect. A possible reference to the Shiite sect

– We will go all the way toward uncovering the truth, there will not be any bargaining on this issue.

– We are not armed, the Lebanese Forces and the Phalange are not armed either.

– It seems that we are supposed to apologize for Rafik Hariri, Pierre Gemayel or Gebran Tueni being assassinated.

– Today is the anniversary of [the beginning of the 2006] July War. We all know that [Israel] killed [Lebanese] in that war and we condemn it, but who killed our martyrs? We want to know.

– In any trial in the world, the accused are either proven guilty or innocent.

– Should we abolish the tribunal and forget about our martyrs just because we have doubts?

– I want you to see past international tribunals. There have always been leaks, this is the media’s role… but eventually, the court will prove if the accused has committed the crime or not.

– Asked if he is ready to meet with Nasrallah :

I am not against dialogue, but I want to have witnesses to be there next time I meet him so that nothing is made up about what we talked about.

– Asked why he sourly received PM Najib Mikati after the latter was nominated as premier :

The most important thing for me is honesty. I do not have a personal problem with Mikati, but today the current cabinet is that of Hezbollah and carries out the project of the party , and Mikati is the head of the government.

– When we were allied with Mikati in Tripoli [during the 2009 parliamentary elections], did we ally on the basis that we want the truth in Rafik Hariri’s murder ‘in principal’ ? A possible reference to the wording of the ministerial statement about the cabinet’s ‘ in principal’ commitment to STL

– “The decision to bring down Saad Hariri from the premiership was made by two people: Nasrallah and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. Mikati is only serving as a tool.”

– I want to ask Minister of Finance Mohammad Safadi who backed Mikati , what did March 14 do to you?

– Is Mikati’s vow to commit to the STL written down clearly in his government’s Ministerial Statement?

– I see that the current cabinet is that of Hezbollah.

– I am part of March 14. We are all one, and thus March 8 saw that I made compromises and went to Syria and Iran… and picked the moment when it would be the easiest to bring down my cabinet.

– Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblatt is not part of Hezbollah, he is a leader. He was the one who stood up for the blood of Rafik Hariri on March 14 and I respect him and respect his supporters, regardless of our political differences.

– When I said that on March 13 that I was betrayed, I was honestly referring to Safadi and Mikati and actually Lebanon and the Lebanese people were betrayed.

– Iran and Syria benefited from the formation of the new cabinet.

– Asked about March 14’s plans to deal with the cabinet :

We are a democratic alliance seeking to bring down the cabinet democratically. We can take to the streets in protests. We will negotiate with the allies [in March 14]. But I want to reassure the Lebanese that we will not burn tires or close the Beirut airport road. However, no one should think that March 14 will not keep track of the cabinet’s performance.

Asked about President Suleiman

– I respect President Michel Suleiman and I have good relations with him. We were hoping that he would remain true to his inaugural speech and I believe that what’s going on today is not part of that speech.

– We support any economic plan that benefits the country.

– The March 14 parties have projects for Lebanon. I did not see anything in the new cabinet’s Ministerial Statement.

– March 14 parties and the Future Movement might have made mistakes out of their beliefs that rival parties were acting in good will.

– Many say that March 14 should not have made concessions, but I am against these statements.

– There is a project to take the country and abolish its independence.

– I do not think that the cabinet will remain until 2013 [the date of the next parliamentary elections]. March 14 is a strong opposition, and I believe it can bring down the cabinet.

– We are not afraid. [March 8] can be politically malicious. The problem is about how Lebanon will survive.

– Asked about national dialogue :

We have no problem to resume it but if anyone comes to ask us to bargain on the STL, we will not attend dialogue sessions . I don’t know about my March 14 allies, but I will not be there if that’s the case.

– The next rounds of national dialogue will be different [if they are resumed].

– The weapons that are pointed at their people will no longer serve [the armed] party.

We have to have special relations with the Syrian government under the framework of respect for the independence and sovereignty of both countries.

– Asked about the Syrian uprising :

As an Arab citizen, I cannot remain silent over what is going on. What is happening is unjust. The Syrian people are expressing their views. You cannot accuse them of sabotaging the country.

-The Syrian people know better about what is going on. On the humanitarian level, I see that there is oppression taking place against the Syrian people .

– The Future Movement is fully compassionate toward the Syrian people.

– There are crimes being committed in Syria…

– How many people were killed so far in Syria? All those [reportedly] killed are terrorists?

– I, who is calling for justice in Rafik Hariri’s murder, cannot turn away from what is going on in Syria.

– No one expected that such revolts would take place in the region.

I am not worried about the changes that will occur in the Arab world.

– I tell Assad that no one is bigger than their country and that the Syrian people are the base of Syria.

– I tell president Suleiman that he made a presidential oath and we would have hoped he would carry on with it.

– I tell Speaker Nabih Berri that we want him as a partner in the country and not a partner in hiding the suspects in Rafik Hariri’s murder .

– I tell Jumblatt that I respect him. Some in March 14 might see that Jumblatt has made harsh statements against us. I disagree with Jumblatt on that… The rhetoric used between us and Jumblatt was never tense. Jumblatt took a position based on his fear of sectarian strife in the country, but we tell him as Sunnis that there won’t be strife in Lebanon.

– I would have wished that [Free Patriotic Movement leader] MP Michel Aoun to be among the ranks of March 14 , but but unfortunately he has chosen to be a Hezbollah “second-class officer.”

– I tell former president and current Phalange party leader Amin Gemayel that the blood of martyrs will not go away for nothing. [His slain son] Pierre and [his other son MP] Sami are my brothers.

– I tell Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea that we will continue our path together. [Geagea] does not make mistakes and sticks to his word. His obsession is to preserve Lebanon’s sovereignty.

– I tell the March 14 supporters that we are part of the project to preserve Lebanon’s independence.

The rift in the country is political and not sectarian. Don’t be frustrated and rest assured that Lebanon’s future will be like you want it to be because we won’t abandon Lebanon and we will continue our path towards making Lebanon the democratic jewel of the Arab world.

– I am worried about the issue of STL’s funding.

– I tell Nasrallah to [echo] Rafik Hariri and say that no one is bigger than Lebanon. To see Lebanon and not anything greater than it. All the Lebanese are resistant. I hope Sayyed Hassan [Nasrallah] would be a bit modest.

– I tell Rafik Hariri that the truth has begun to surface out. The family is fine and we are fine. He will see that Lebanon will become the way he wanted it to be. There is no way we will give up on the blood of Rafik Hariri.

– I tell March 14 that we sacrificed a lot. And it is forbidden to not be optimistic.

– I tell the Lebanese people all over the country that we do not have anyone but each other. We will be able to build a state if we agree together and not by resorting to the strongest party.

How mature of you I can see how educated and civilized you are!!
There is nothing fake about the blood that was shed in the south or anything fake about the Israeli bombs that showered Lebanon’s cities and villages.
I’ll stop here I can see it is a waste of time.

          @ ZeinaDM …

Yes, blood … lots of blood … always blood … but shed for the wrong reasons. There are more ways to ‘resist’ than going for bigger weapons and calling ‘the wrath of God’  (as if you have ever seen it) … and those ways probably don’t take as many years, or cause as much grief.

(below) And no-one said the blood was fake. Women and children suffer greatly, as usual, when stupid men decide to beat their chests. Strangely, the male children who are left will become as stupid as the fathers.

O you who believe! Stand out firmly for justice, as witnesses to Allah, even though it be against yourselves, or your parents, or your kin, be he rich or poor, Allah is a Better Protector to both (than you). So follow not the lusts (of your hearts), lest you may avoid justice, and if you distort your witness or refuse to give it, verily, Allah is Ever Well-Acquainted with what you do. (4:135)

it does not take for a person to live the lives of the poor to care for them.

in fact some people who were originally poor and became rich, they not only forget about the poor but they disown anything to do with the poor… we cannot say that these pple do not know anything about being poor…but they choose not to know…whereas every lebanese is a witness on the generosity of Rafeeq Harriri  and his family.

i need to revert your attention also to where Miqati and Berri have gone straight after the vote of confidence to the current lebanese govt…

but even, let’s look at where Aoun is living …how he was living in exile with the stolen money and then he was a general in the lebanese army..unfortunately.

It is only idiotic to believe the baseless claims that were potrayed as evidence in the politicising of the STL…really, time to move on from that claim because no one believes it anymore.

leave the dead alone, you know nothing about what his father thinks now, isn’t it enough he has been assassinated for the second time by the likes of HA, Berri, Bashar Al Se3den?.

        1. ZeinaDM Avatar

Maybe you are right about the rich and the poor, it is not fair to generalize, it’s just that Saad strikes me as the kind of person who cannot possibly relate to real people’s lives. His father before him yes maybe but him he never uttered a word of compassion. Philantropy is great but the Hariri’s generosity and charities were coupled with a lot of power brought in over the country. Nevertheless I did not deny them, it helped a lot of people. I actually am sad about the loss of Rafik el Hariri. He was an impressive man. And who said when I commented on Saad’s stay in Paris I excluded others from enjoying the same luxuries? Did I say that? Aoun or Mikati or any other?
You can decide you hold the truth and opposite claims are baseless the fact remains that no one even wants to consider the validity of these claims or even look into it for the sake of the truth, a word used very conveniently these days. Who holds the truth do you? Ears are blocked and minds are closed that is not the way to the truth.

saad harriri never had a chance to do anything since 2005.
if anything it was m8 who made sure to make things worse for him by the 2006 war, the sit in in beirut, the may 2008 beirut invasion, and then the rest…how would he be able to do anything when the parliament has been hijacked or closed off for more then a year.

if we are going to bring in to our discussion the fator or foreign intervension, then similar to what you are saying, i could say, how about the “halal” money that’s being brought in from iran or from syria to Aoun during the 2009 elections for example…

SA, Kuwait and Qatar among others brought in money to the country to rebuild a great porportion of the south thast has been bombed by israel…whereas the north especially tripoli and akkar region, they are getting more and more poorer but their majority are with m14, you know why?
because they do know and differientiate between those who are stealing the lebanese money and hijacking the country in the name of “resistance” and those who want the best for their country to unite all factions regardles of religion to rebuild a country that has suffered for a long time…

no, you are wrong, we are hearing the others and seeing into their evidence but after examination of their evidence and reasons, it is not our fault that they can be easily disputed with proofs and evidence written on paper…

so my dear, who is the side now that is “sommon bukmon 3oumiyon…laa yafqahoon”?

      4. I agree that he is not the best speaker in the world, and may not have presneted his views strongly, but why does anyone that has a different point of view is always considered to be against the moqawameh??? anyone that is not on your side is an agent of Israel?? enough of this BS, it reminds me of the Zionist exuses to continue killing the palatenians….(the right to defend it’s self after every offensive operation).
We as genreal public need to stop blindly following our so called leaders, and stop repeating their rehtorics, and start thinking with logic.

        1. ZeinaDM Avatar

It is really funny how you take the opportunity to rehash things that the media keeps repeating in your ears regardless of the relevance to the comment that was made. You inserted agent of Israel? Did I accuse Saad of that? I said his father supported the resistance against Israel it is a known fact and not that politicians don’t flip their positions but one can assume that he would not approve of his son’s current position. Let’s leave it at that

      5. Shame should be on those who are destroying the fabric of a potentially great nation. Shame should be on all of the follower of M8 leaders. Shame should be on ignorant blinded by the rhetoric of dominance and war, instead of peace, harmony and prosperity.

        1. ZeinaDM Avatar

There is no peace, harmony or prosperity when ignorants and self serving people rule. Shame on followers of any leader just for the heck of it or just for religious affiliations without questioning once what did they do for me as a regular citizen, what did they do to make my country safer and better for all? The problem we have is we don’t stand up for our rights because we don’t believe in our country to begin with. It’s all fake sentiments and mostly provoked by prejudice and preconceived rejection of opposite views. We are people who do not know how to listen and how to use our own judgement, we just follow and think so little of ourselves.
War is ugly but is the only way when faced with a brutal enemy. Men who died to protect Lebanon’s borders did not like to die they did it because they believed in their rights to defend their families and their fellow citizens. The entire country benefited from their sacrifice not M8 or Mballout and instead of celebrating them we fight them. An internal enemy is far worst than an external one…

Did we listen to the same speech? How is putting his hand in Geagea’s betraying his father? Samir didnt kill Rafik Al-Hariri, Hezbollah did. Geagea had his atrocities during the civil war, but to use those against him 20 years later is a mistake in logic. Geagea has used the last 6 years to prove his intentions, and I haven’t seen truer intentions for Lebanon from the March 8 Camp at all.

And as to your comments about Rafik Al-Hariri supporting the resistance, All of Lebanon used to support the resistance. However, Hezbollah is no longer resisting anything, they are a proxy army of Iran manipulating Lebanon to serve Iranian interests in the region.

Hezbollah stopped becoming a resistance movement on May 7 2008 when they killed Lebanese citizens in their homes. I gaurantee Rafik Al-Hariri would have washed his hands of these murderers after that (he potentially started washing his hands of them earlier and thats why he was killed)

Hezbollah is a farce name, HezbIran is more accurate.

        ZEINADM READ ME PLEASE

We absolutely have to strengthen our army, not your terrorist militia. That’s the whole god damn point. The Lebanese people want their army to protect them, an army overseen by the state. We are tired of your criminals and this is the root of the disagreement.

You have a big heart Mohammad  so forgiving why didn’t you forgive HA for one day on May 7th so we can all move on?What about the one day in Tripoli? and I don’t care to explain why May 7 happened and why 20 years ago happened and why Tripoli happened because no matter what I say we’re going to hear the same song May 7,  weapons directed at the inside, Iran etc. You mean Hariris don’t have affiliations with another country? Really? This is politics wake up!!!!  and I think it is always down to sectarian segregation not patriotic intentions. And they are not resisting anything anymore? The threat is always there, it never ended do you know how many times enemy airplanes feel free to tour our skies every day and monitor and make noise over Lebanon because they think so little of our sovereignty? we have to wait until we get attacked and destroyed and maybe occupied again before we have the sense to talk about strengthening our army I wish more energy is spent working on that instead of going round and around the same empty arguments. There is no peace without strong defense and without a strong infrastructure that would also be part of our resistance. Speeches ma bitta3meh khobez….

@ ZeinaDM ….  What did you want Hariri to say? That you should all go get your guns and get ready to die?
If we said that only Hezzbolla is the ‘enemy’ of Israel, and Israel does not mind the rest of us, and does not wish to become the ‘masters’, would you lighten up on the ‘fly-overs’?
Personally, I think we should all hit the beaches, take all our clothes off, enjoy the sun and surf before it’s full of oil, and let the Israeli’s have an eyeful. Give them some good pictures of a ‘happy people’.

How about never mind May 2008….As far as Im concerned HA should be completely dismantled for the nightmare they unleashed on Lebanon in 2006… They started a full out war against one of the worlds most powerful and unforgiving armies…how many Lebanese children from the south lost their lives because of this cocky lunatic??? and for what? or should I say for who? perhaps to divert global attention from his masters in Persia he’d sacrifice Lebanese lives…None of us want to go to a suicidal war with Israel, we want peace and we will maintain our sovereignty thru international respect…This whole master plan they had is all falling apart now and we are all witnessing it….

Yes, blood … lots of blood … always blood … but shed for the wrong reasons. There are more ways to ‘resist’ than going for bigger weapons and calling ‘the wrath of God’  (as if you have ever seen it) … and those ways probably don’t take as many years, or cause as much grief.

it does not take for a person to live the lives of the poor to care for them.

in fact some people who were originally poor and became rich, they not only forget about the poor but they disown anything to do with the poor… we cannot say that these pple do not know anything about being poor…but they choose not to know…whereas every lebanese is a witness on the generosity of Rafeeq Harriri  and his family.

i need to revert your attention also to where Miqati and Berri have gone straight after the vote of confidence to the current lebanese govt…

but even, let’s look at where Aoun is living …how he was living in exile with the stolen money and then he was a general in the lebanese army..unfortunately.

Whenever someone or a group of people claim to know “the truth”, they tend to deny the other(s) , and are “obligated” to say that the other(s) are false.
Whether one believes in God or not, God, as you put it, must be watching over all of his creatures. It seems to me that you are talking about desperation here.
When ever someone or a group of people claim to know “the truth”, they tend to deny the other(s) , and are “obligated” to say that the other(s) are false, in  order to  hold on  to whatever  claim of truth  they  have.
Whether one believes in God or not, God, as you put it, must be watching over all of his creatures. If  you ask  Lebanese people  regardless  of what  sect they  belong to , political background or affiliation, the greatest majority would echo  your sentiment that They  are  right, and/or  they  are  the most  needy, and that they  deserve  God’s attention and  protection  more than  others.

    2. don;t get to excited in here bro el hakim did a lot of mistakes thats why we are in this situation if he did not we would been in much better situation but as well he did pay for some of the mistake while the others didn;t and the end of the day we as lebanese pay the heavy prices

Ya everyone is stuck on the past….The difference is like you stated he did the time for the so called “crimes” he committed. But the bigger difference is that he has never abandoned Lebanon. For that I respect him and I completely support his message as it is LEBANONS message.

I dont think its possible to be in a better situation unless HA and there arms were turned over a long time ago…This is our problem, we cant change the past but those who are fighting for a positive future need our support…I will continue to voice my support for all those who put Lebanon first and that includes l Hakim.

“Geagea does not make mistakes”…….. wtf, are you serious??? That comment alone discredits everything else.

Listen to me people, all politicians in Lebanon are corrupt, murderers, liars, money hungry, sleazy, dirty SOBs.

Stop wasting your time and emotions on imbeciles.

yes of course ALL OF THEM ARE, really??? and what do you suggest then??? and btw we are not wasting our time, if u are for Lebanon, justice, freedom and international respect then it is worth every second to support those who are fighting to achieve this.

People who make statements like these somehow cant see the severity of the crimes committed by the terrorists running our country…Please dont try to mask the truth and discredit the side of good by branding all Lebanons leaders as equally morally corrupt, you’re only kidding yourself. It is clear to 99% of people who the criminals are, and we are trying to unmask them all!

  7. we are all lebanese no matter what religion we are lets out our hand together and save this country once for all for god sake we had enough war enough killing lets kick those smart ass out of our country and build a country for a change and not a farm

what you are saying is th elegacy of Rafeeq Harriri and now his son.

some evil lebanese think that is wrong because they are ‘more honourable’ then the rest of the lebanese.

honour is standing up for the truth and justice….something is very far from the pple ruling lebanon atm.

his sincerity, honesty and love for the truth shows on his face…

to ask for witnesses if there was any dialogue between himself and Nasrullah stresses the fact that he is indeed politically naive. in other times it is a very good and pure thing but at our time, unfortunately it is not.

Allah yer7am your father, he was always optimistic, you have taken that quality from him too.

no matter how evil looks like it is winning, at the end, al haq will always be the ultimate winner.

since Harriri together with the rest of the martyr’s families are on the path of truth, then at the end they will be the winners inshaAllah!

But in the ‘game of life’, this is not about winning or losing – it is about the victims and their families finally seeing and having some justice for their suffering from a heinous crime – even if it is far too late to be addressing it.
The real crime now is that so many years have gone by, and will again, before there is some resolution for them; and for those still alive, some peace in their minds.

God’s attention and  protection  more than  others.”

We dont “think” we know the truth man, and when it becomes less foggy for some of you out there you will see why we are “obligated” to call the killers out….THE COURT WILL KNOW THE TRUTH AND NOBODY IS DENYING THE ACCUSED TO DEFEND THEMSELVES AND PROVE OTHERWISE.

What do you suggest, that evidence and proof of a crime is not good enough????  would you like to have seen the crime with your own eyes for it to become a reality???? the world has become very advanced and it will be very easy to convict these terrorists. they wouldn’t issue warrants unless they were more than certain of the evidence…I just hope all you out there who were against the truth will come around once the evidence is provided, if not well you are all hopeless.

Bloggers on this site think they represent what every one else feels or thinks and you are obviously stuck on one track and not really open for a dialogue because everytime you make comments you make it in a bitter tone and you bring up religion right away. One of YaLibnan’s principles as written is ” Separation of Religion and State: In order for Lebanese citizens to elect the most suitable representatives, religious considerations should be completely abolished…” since when? As soon as someone else wins an election or a government, insults start from the other party and ‘suitable’ representatives means they should be of the religion that we favor. Did anybody give the Mikati government a chance? You say Hariri didn’t have a chance he had plenty of chance. And since when Lebanon has a free will in anything and we don’t go seek others’ opinion when we form governments or powers are inherited from father to son? We have no free-will leaders and those who might be are hated, ignored, and have no real power. One person here replied to me saying your shiite militia etc. others started talking to me about going to Iran. See just because I expressed my support for the resistance you assumed I was of the Shiia sect guess what? I am not!!! Not that that would be a bad thing I respect all and think religion is a private matter. There are a lot of christians and other religions who support the resistance. Wasn’t Hariri’s bayan el wizzari based on the equation of “al sha3eb al jaysh al moqawama’ and you claim logic, does logic tell you to blame the victim? how can you say that the killing of children by the enemy was provoked? Wow! Even foreigners had more mercy than you when they felt badly for our children. The thing is all of you do not belong to your country you belong to your sects and to your zo3ama. You are stuck!! Proceed my friends with your sectarian lives, continue with your narrow mindedness and with your bitterness live in your own cyllos and close your eyes and ears, there is real hope for a real country in a million years good luck and good bye. I will pray for you this Sunday I promise

Well, here I agree with you to the extent that ‘religion’ should be a private matter.
And like you I am sorry to see that allowing God/Allah/Whatever out of politics seems impossible – while ‘The Glorious Leaders’ constantly bring Him up in it. Yet the human race has not learned that He doesn’t interfere with men’s affairs, and only judges after, perhaps, what they have done.  These humans sure have messed up the politics. It is a growth of the ‘hate factor’, and too sad for words.  Allow me a couple of lines from a man who was not a politician, fortunately, although his great life’s work for humanity was used by politicians against humans.

“The highest destiny of the individual is to serve rather than to rule.” – Albert Einstein
“The only difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has its limits.” – Albert Einstein

Ultimately, we all need to ‘take a side’ as we determine our own ‘path’ in life.  But you should see, my friend, that you take the side of a group led and largely brainwashed by a man who only has hate in his heart and guotes his version of religion and God to justify what he does to humans he doesn’t even know. And in this, he drags children into it with him. He may not be the only one doing this – but he does. It seems that many fail to listen to words from history.

“I have known war as few men now living know it. It’s very destructiveness on both friend and foe has rendered it useless as a means of settling international disputes.” – General Douglas MacArthur

If we seek the ‘truth’ and WISH to bring ‘justice’ for human society to be able to survive together without those wars, we DO need to stop talking ‘war’ every time there is disagreement. Each of us may react to facts  differently, and human passion if uncontrolled gives way to destruction as we well see, but only discussion based on fact – and that includes scientific fact – will be the answer for changing the results of what we do to ourselves by wishing to grab a gun each time someone disagrees with us.
There will always, of course, be some who are unhappy to find their ‘facts’ were not true – and to react passionately when ‘feeling’ someone else caused their wrong interpretations.
“Truth is eternal, knowledge is changeable. It is disastrous to confuse them.” – Madeleine L’Engle

People are refusing to open their minds. I agree with you there is much ‘narrow-mindedness’. And if you look around the world, it seems to be growing. Genetically speaking, we humans are in a decline of sensibility – from the time of the Greeks, at least.
The word ‘Martyr’ is from the Greek ‘martur’, and it’s meaning then was ‘Witness’.
Look how we have screwed that up – although perhaps we could agree that what we now call a martyr has certainly witnessed his last moment of existence. My hope is that there are yet some who are capable of relying less on belief and more on fact, and there will be education available for those brains to absorb.
“Teachers open the door, but you must enter by yourself.”  – Chinese Proverb

And yes, I use quotes often. They are small grains of good thoughts that some human brains had once in a while after having a lot of ‘dialogue’ within themselves. Why not give the originator of those thoughts their due?
We can debate the veracity if you wish.

Is there a chance for a ‘real country’ as you put it?  I think only when everyone is willing to open their minds to PEACE and human achievement before listening to their ‘passions’ and reaching for a weapon, we could have understanding and a ‘togetherness’ beneficial to all.
Although, ladies, where passion is wonderful, I accept that too.  🙂

If there is a God, He has given us a lot of beauty to enjoy. Fertilizing the land with blood doesn’t seem quite what he may have had in mind.
