Public Works Minister Ghazi Aridi , a key member of MP Walid Jumblatt’s parliamentary bloc denied that U.S. Ambassador Maura Connelly had imposed any conditions on the National Struggle Front bloc leader or the new cabinet during their Tuesday night meeting .
In remarks to al-Joumhouria daily on Thursday, Aridi said “Discussions focused on the general Lebanese situation.” Adding “It was just a normal meeting.”
Aridi participated in the talks that were held at Jumblatt’s residence in Clemenceau last Tuesday.
When asked about the U.S. stance regarding PM Najib Miqati’s government, Aridi said the position that was previously expressed by Connelly hasn’t changed and hinted that the U.S. would be in a confrontation with the cabinet if it does not abide by international resolutions and specifically 1701 and the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) .
