The Lebanese Justice Ministry issued a statement on Thursday saying it received 25 extradition notices from the Syrian embassy in Lebanon on Wednesday. The list includes former ministers Marawan Hamadeh, Charles Rizk and Hasan al-Sabaa as well as ex-MP Elias Atallah, State Prosecutor Saeed Mirza and magistrates Saqr Saqr and Elias Eid, in addition to former head of Lebanon’s military intelligence Johnny Abdo.

The extradition notices were issued by the Syrian judiciary against Lebanese public figures for perjury against former General Security Director Jamil as-Sayyed, who was one of the four generals that were jailed in 2005 as a suspect in the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri but was released in 2009 for lack of insufficient evidence.

The ministry said it will discuss the warrants before taking the appropriate steps.

But according to an al-Mustaqbal judicial source the Syrian warrants were carried out in “clear violation” of the law and norms.”In this case, the warrants should be returned,” the source told the daily in remarks published Thursday.
