The Lebanese Army Intelligence branch arrested al-Qaida linked al-Nusra Front member, Ali Ahmed al-Lakkis, who had executed soldier Mohammed Hamiyeh who was kidnaped following the Arsal clashes in August 2014, the LBCI reported on Friday.

Lakkis, an expert at preparing explosives and close to the so-called emir of al-Nusra Front in Qalamoun Abu Malik al-Talli, was caught with a fake Syrian passport under the assumed name of Emad Ghobra at the Rafik Hariri International Airport as he tried to flee to Iraq, the report added.

In September 2014, al-Nusra executed Hamiyeh who was held captive together with other soldiers and servicemen.

He was executed with “several bullets” according to a Nusra leader in Syria’s Qalamun.

More than 30 Lebanese servicemen were kidnapped in Aug. 2014 by the extremist groups after they briefly overran the town that month leading to a five day battle with the army. Since then, soldiers and policemen have either been executed or released. Over 20 are still being held hostage by ISIS and the Nusra Front in the outskirts of Arsal.
