President Trump said Friday he will not be attending his son Donald Trump Jr.’s wedding this weekend, citing government business.
“While I very much wanted to be with my son, Don Jr., and the newest member of the Trump Family, his soon to be wife, Bettina, circumstances pertaining to Government, and my love for the United States of America, do not allow me to do so,” the president wrote on Truth Social.
“I feel it is important for me to remain in Washington, D.C., at the White House during this important period of time,” he said. “Congratulations to Don and Bettina!”
The president was originally supposed to go to his golf club in Bedminster, N.J., this weekend after campaigning with Rep. Mike Lawler (R) in New York’s 17th Congressional District Friday, but his schedule was changed to stay in Washington.
The president was asked by reporters Thursday about attending his son’s wedding to Palm Beach socialite and model Bettina Anderson in the Bahamas this weekend, and he had said he wasn’t sure if he could.

“He’d like me to go, but it’s going to be just a small, little private affair, and I’m going to try and make it,” he said. “I’m in the midst — I said, ‘You know, this is not good timing for me, I have a thing called Iran and other things.’”
“That’s one I can’t win on,” he added. “If I do attend, I get killed, if I don’t attend, I get killed, by the fake news, of course, I’m talking about, no. But he’s got a very — a person who I’ve known for a long time, and hopefully, they’re going to have a great marriage.”
Trump Jr. announced his engagement to Anderson in December, calling it a “big win.”
