A Syrian refugee compound in south Lebanon was raided by the Lebanese Army Friday and over 50 were arrested over residency violations.
According to Lebanese media reports an army unit conducted the dawn raid in Al-Ouzai compound on the northern entrance to the city of Sidon.
The unit searched two adjacent buildings and inspected the identification documents and residency permits of the refugees.
Lebanon is home to over 1.5 million Syrian refugees but only about two thirds have been registered with the UNHCR. Many Syrians infiltrate Lebanon illegally because the borders are very porous
