George Clooney calls Donald Trump a ‘xenophobic fascist’

trumpAcademy award winning actor and admitted Hillary Clinton supporter George Clooney had some harsh words for Donald Trump recently during a sit-down interview with a British newspaper.

Speaking with The Guardian at a hotel room in Berlin, Clooney succinctly described Trump as a “xenophobic fascist” and an “opportunist.”

More broadly, Clooney described the U.S. Election season – which begins more than a year before the general election – as a time when “things go crazy.”
“You know, the truth of the matter is, in election season, things go crazy, and the loudest voices are the furthest and most extreme,” the actor said. “So you hear a massively stupid idea, like we’re going to ban Muslims from the country. Now, we’re not ever going to do that.”

Despite Trump’s bombastic approach, he is currently leading all Republican nominees in the race for the White House. On Tuesday, Trump won seven states and another 250 of the 1,237 delegates needed to secure the republican nomination. He’s currently leading the next closest opponent, Ted Cruz, by 332 delegates.

Clooney also told the British newspaper about how Trump turned a short meeting with the actor into an insult during an interview with Larry King.

“I met Donald once,” Clooney reportedly said. “I was sitting in a booth and we talked for a while. Then he did Larry King, and he said I was very short. And I was like: ‘I was sitting down the whole time, Donald!”

Trump’s unanticipated rise to the top of the polls has generated a similar spike in American interest in moving to Canada. The search term “How to move to Canada” spiked on Google Tuesday night as Trump won primaries in several states.
