Russia relaxes ban on nuclear tech exports to Iran as Putin meets with Khamenei

Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Iran on the same day the Kremlin issued a formal decree easing an export ban on nuclear equipment and technology to Iran, following a deal reached in July between world powers and Iran on its nuclear program.

According to the decree, Russian firms are now authorized to export hardware and to provide financial and technical advice to help Iran with three specific tasks. The tasks were identified as helping Iran modify two cascades at its Fordow uranium enrichment plant, supporting Iranian efforts to export enriched uranium in exchange for raw uranium supplies, and helping modernize its Arak heavy water reactor.

The decision follows a landmark deal between six world powers and Tehran in July, under which Iran agreed long-term curbs on a nuclear program that the West has suspected was aimed at creating a nuclear bomb. The deal will lift international sanctions on Iran in exchange for at least a decade of curbs on the country’s nuclear activity including reducing the number of centrifuges used to enrich uranium, and its enriched uranium stockpile.

The agreement to ease Russia’s nuclear export ban to Iran came as Putin paid an official visit to Tehran, meeting with Ayatollah Khamenei, the country’s supreme leader. Putin and the ayatollah had planned to “discuss all topical issues of bilateral cooperation — trade and investment cooperation, nuclear energy, oil and gas production, military and technical cooperation,” Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said in a statement last week. This is Putin’s first visit to Iran since 2007.

On Monday, Khamenei published pictures of the event on his website showing Putin speaking with him among a group of dignitaries.

Putin, who will attend a summit of gas exporting countries on Monday in Tehran, is also expected to discuss the Syrian civil war and other issues with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.

They have spent the last couple of years terracing the landscape. The area was semi arid almost desert before they started. And you can see where the new terraces are being built. In the next few years they will have excess food to export.

Mango can hang on when hurricanes blow … adaptation of species – just like skin colouring, which has to do with making vitamin D.

      1. Looks like your wife didn’t hang on

You would be able to get the seeds through mail order. Might be a good business for someone growing semi tropical/ tropical seedlings.
I like the fruit as well. Great if they have been in a fridge or freezer on a hot day. Good shade tree not to near a house.

      3. I think the Iranians are more interested in growing mushroom not mango. If they are still pursuing nuclear tech they may be interested in nuclear mushroom more than anything else .

Pic 1. Putin being hypnotized by Supreme Magician.
Pic 2. Usual silly-grin reaction of people who never thought they could be hypnotized.

    1. You nailed it
      You spoke my mind !!!
I had the exact same reaction when I saw Putin’s picture . The funny part is the picture was distributed by the supremo’s office .
I wonder what happened and what kind of documents did Khamanei make Putin sigh after he was hypnotized.

Perhaps one of the docts calls for Khamanei to exchange positions with Putin.
You never know …Putin is used to this kind of thing…remember poor Medvedev .
I feel sorry for whatever is left of the Russia democracy

  3. Most awkward meeting ever.
They are allies of convenience and if Iran actually had other friends they would talk trash about Russia as bad as they do the US. Actually Khomeini hated Russia more than the US back in ’79 when Iran lost its mind. But Khamenei needs Russia to fight its battles, so they are BFF now.

    1. Iran lost its mind twice. First time was 1400 years ago.
