Egypt braces for 'Friday of anger' after bloody crackdown

egypt friday of angerEgypt’s Islamists called for a “Friday of anger” in Cairo after nearly 600 people were killed following a crackdown on their protest camps, as the UN urged “maximum restraint” from all sides.

“Anti-coup rallies… will depart from all mosques of Cairo and head towards Ramsis square after (traditional Friday) prayer in ‘Friday of Anger’,” Muslim Brotherhood spokesman Gehad al-Haddad wrote on Twitter.

The call raised fears of fresh violence after the death toll from nationwide clashes following Wednesday’s operation to clear two protest camps supporting ousted president Mohamed Morsi rose to 578, making it Egypt’s bloodiest day in decades.

There were renewed attacks on security forces during a tense day on Thursday, with at least seven soldiers and a policeman killed in the Sinai peninsula and another police officer killed in the central city of Assiut.

With the country under a state of emergency and many provinces hit by night-time curfews, the interior ministry ordered police to use live fire if government buildings came under attack.

International criticism of the bloodshed poured in and the United Nations Security Council held an emergency meeting on the crisis at the request of France, Britain and Australia.

Afterwards, the Argentine president of the council urged all parties to exercise “maximum restraint”.

Ambassador Maria Cristina Perceval, whose country currently presides over the 15-country body, said member states regretted the loss of life in Cairo, called for an end to the violence and spoke of the need to advance “national reconciliation.”

US President Barack Obama led the international outrage at the bloody crackdown, announcing the cancellation of a joint US-Egyptian military exercise.

“While we want to sustain our relationship with Egypt, our traditional cooperation cannot continue as usual when civilians are being killed in the streets and rights are being rolled back,” he said.

But despite scrapping the Bright Star exercise, which has been scheduled every two years since 1981, he stopped short of suspending Washington’s annual $1.3 billion in aid to Egypt.

Meanwhile, the US State Department warned citizens not to travel to Egypt and called on those already there to leave.

Obama’s remarks sparked a defiant response from Egypt’s president early on Friday, saying that “statements not based on facts may encourage violent armed groups.”

“The presidency appreciates US concern for developments in Egypt, but it wished it could have clarified matters,” said the statement carried by the official MENA news agency.

Governments in several European capitals summoned Egyptian envoys to voice their concern.

Turkey’s Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, a Morsi supporter, described the crackdown as a “massacre” and Ankara later recalled its ambassador to Cairo.

And UN rights chief Navi Pillay called for “an independent, impartial, effective and credible investigation of the conduct of the security forces.”

“The number of people killed or injured, even according to the government’s figures, point to an excessive, even extreme use of force against demonstrators,” she said.

‘Strong, defiant and resolved’

Morsi supporters had called for Cairo marches on Thursday but that call was not heeded, while small protests were staged in coastal Alexandria and southern Beni Sueif.

Meanwhile, attacks against churches and Christian properties that began on Wednesday continued for a second day, with activists saying at least 25 churches had been targeted.

As relatives sought to identify their dead, Brotherhood spokesman Haddad insisted protesters would “remain strong, defiant and resolved.”

“We will push forward until we bring down this military coup,” he tweeted.

In Cairo, at the Al-Iman mosque, dozens of corpses of protesters clad in white shrouds were lined up before grieving relatives.

At the two protest sites where Morsi loyalists had camped since his July 3 ouster, trucks cleared charred debris.

And Egyptian police entered a Cairo mosque containing the bodies of several dozen Islamist protesters after a brief stand-off during which tear gas was fired.

Ibrahim, a field medic inside the mosque, said more than 200 corpses had been removed earlier in the day but 43 unidentified bodies remained.

State media said ambulances were waiting to cart the bodies off to hospital for identification.

There were also calls from Tamarod, the protest group that organised opposition to Morsi’s rule, for Egyptians to take to the streets on Friday “to reject domestic terrorism and foreign interference.”

Despite the bloodshed, Egypt’s press welcomed the end of the pro-Morsi demonstrations.

“The nightmare of the Brotherhood is gone,” daily Al-Akhbar’s front page headline read.

Newspapers carried photos of protesters brandishing weapons and throwing stones, but none from makeshift morgues where dead protesters were lined up in rooms slick with blood.

The killing prompted interim vice president and Nobel laureate Mohamed ElBaradei to resign, saying he was troubled over the loss of life, “particularly as I believe it could have been avoided.”

Despite the condemnation, interim prime minister Hazem al-Beblawi praised the police for their “self-restraint” and said the government remained committed to an army-drafted roadmap calling for elections in 2014.

He justified the use of force saying Morsi loyalists had been sowing chaos, “terrorising citizens, attacking public and private property.”

What happened today is an unprecedented mass murder.

From 6 am until now (around 15:00 Cairo time), we’ve been through atrocities not even perpetrated over three weeks of Israeli war on Gaza.

What Sisi is doing is not merely the disbanding of our rally but to embroil the army, its officers and its soldiers in a civil war so that he is not alone brought to justice for war crimes.

Live bullets were shot at peaceful demonstrators from helicopters, rooftops of military installations in the neighbourhood. Victims were shot in the head, the neck, the chest and in the heart. Clearly, this was an intent to kill and not to disband.

The military is conspiring to finish off the wounded by banning ambulances from reaching them; by destroying the medicinal supplies next to the filed hospital; and by attempting to set fire to the field hospital in the hope of destroying evidence and to cover up the crimes committed so far.

Sisi realises that his coup has failed. He knows that by disbanding one rally more rallies will soon form. He is after embroiling the military brass in war crimes to unburden himself.

I appeal to army and police officers and soldiers to rid themselves of the military uniform and go home. They should not take part in these war crimes. The institutions in which they serve have lost their legitimacy and do not deserve to be served.

I appeal to all Egyptians to be true to their humanity and conscience. I do not ask you to come and defend us. We are willing to make the sacrifices and many of our own loved ones have been murdered, including my own daughter. I ask you for the sake of Egypt to take to the streets to declare this coup null and void. If you choose to remain in your homes you’ll be given Sisi a chance to turn Egypt into another Syria so as to escape questioning about his crimes.

I address world conscience and public opinion, I appeal to world humanitarian and human rights organisations, I appeal to the international delegations that came to see us here in Rabaa and who testified that we were completely peaceful, do something in order to stop these war crimes.

I tell the Egyptians that the sacrifices made so far by your brothers and sisters were made in order to put an end to the military rule that humiliated the Egyptians and persecuted them for more than 60 years. They made these sacrifices in order for Egypt to become a civil state in which human dignity is sanctified and human rights and respected.

          2. Coptic Christians are up to 10% of Egypt’s population today, and had the Muslims of Egypt wanted to allegedly “force” Coptic Christians to either “convert to Islam or be killed” (as some idiots claim Egypt’s Muslims allegedly want to) nothing would’ve stopped them and their wouldn’t be any Coptic Christians around today! But this is no the case Muslims have been kind and protected the Coptic Christians, so much so that wealthy Copts have betrayed this trust and oppressed Egypt’s Muslim majority.

That is not true… You give the nation of Islam too much credit… Try to attack them seriously and the whole of Christendom will descend upon you like you’ve never seen… OOPS actually you have once… It was called a crusade.

          6. The Western kuffar Zionist Jewish owned media and their allies are trying to point the finger of blame (along with the Zionist controlled dictator of Egypt Hosni Mubarak and his filthy evildoer son Gamal Mubarak) at the Muslims; but this ignores the history of Zionist “Israeli” false flag terrorist attacks that have occurred in Egypt. This very real possibility is just being completely ignored or mocked by the Zionist Jewish owned Western “mainstream” media. Yet this is just what the Zionist Jews have always wanted Muslims and Christians fighting each other; the Zionist Jews hate both Muslims and Christians and want us to destroy each other so they (i.e. the Zionist Jews) can reign supreme in the world.

The most famous Zionist “Israeli” false flag attack (http://en.wikipedia….wiki/False_flag) in Egypt was the Lavon Affair: http://en.wikipedia….ki/Lavon_Affair

Quote- The Lavon Affair refers to a failed Israeli covert operation, code named Operation Susannah, conducted in Egypt in the Summer of 1954. As part of the false flag operation, a group of Egyptian Jews were recruited by Israeli military intelligence for plans to plant bombs inside Egyptian, American and British-owned targets. The attacks were to be blamed on the Muslim Brotherhood, Egyptian Communists, “unspecified malcontents” or “local nationalists” with the aim of creating a climate of sufficient violence and instability to induce the British government to retain its occupying troops in Egypt’s Suez Canal zone.[1] The operation caused no casualties, except for the members of the cell who committed suicide after being captured.

  3. The Command to fight Those Who fight Muslims and killing Them wherever They are found

Abu Ja`far Ar-Razi said that Ar-Rabi` bin Anas said that Abu Al-`Aliyah commented on what Allah said:

    ๏ดฟูˆูŽู‚ูŽู€ุชูู„ููˆุงู’ ูููŠ ุณูŽุจููŠู„ู ุงู„ู„ู‘ูŽู‡ู ุงู„ู‘ูŽุฐููŠู†ูŽ ูŠูู‚ูŽู€ุชูู„ููˆู†ูŽูƒูู…ู’๏ดพ

(And fight in the way of Allah those who fight you,)

Abu Al-`Aliyah said, “This was the first Ayah about fighting that was revealed in Al-Madinah. Ever since it was revealed, Allah’s Messenger used to fight only those who fought him and avoid non-combatants. Later, Surat Bara’ah (chapter 9 in the Qur’an) was revealed.” `Abdur-Rahman bin Zayd bin Aslam said similarly, then he said that this was later abrogated by the Ayah:

    ๏ดฟููŽุงู‚ู’ุชูู„ููˆุงู’ ุงู„ู’ู…ูุดู’ุฑููƒููŠู†ูŽ ุญูŽูŠู’ุซู ูˆูŽุฌูŽุฏุชู‘ูู…ููˆู‡ูู…ู’๏ดพ

(then kill them wherever you find them) (9:5).

However, this statement is not plausible, because Allah’s statement:

    ๏ดฟุงู„ู‘ูŽุฐููŠู†ูŽ ูŠูู‚ูŽู€ุชูู„ููˆู†ูŽูƒูู…ู’๏ดพ

(…those who fight you) applies only to fighting the enemies who are engaged in fighting Islam and its people. So the Ayah means, `Fight those who fight you’, just as Allah said (in another Ayah):

    ๏ดฟูˆูŽู‚ูŽุงุชูู„ููˆุงู’ ุงู„ู’ู…ูุดู’ุฑููƒููŠู†ูŽ ูƒูŽุขูู‘ูŽุฉู‹ ูƒูŽู…ูŽุง ูŠูู‚ูŽู€ุชูู„ููˆู†ูŽูƒูู…ู’ ูƒูŽุขูู‘ูŽุฉู‹๏ดพ

(…and fight against the Mushrikin collectively as they fight against you collectively.) (9:36)

This is why Allah said later in the Ayah:

(And kill them wherever you find them, and turn them out from where they have turned you out.) meaning, `Your energy should be spent on fighting them, just as their energy is spent on fighting you, and on expelling them from the areas from which they have expelled you, as a law of equality in punishment.’

    1. Hannibal Avatar

God does not like killing… Jesus is the message and the path… Which is a better creation? One born of a woman who married many and fathered many whose descendents are slaughtering one another? OR a creation by God filled with the Holy Spirit who never sinned and never preached violence? Really it is an easy pick.

You will never win against the word of God through Jesus.

          1. Do not think that I came to bring peace on Earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I came to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; and a man’s enemies will be the members of his household. He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; and he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who does not take his cross and follow Me is not worthy of Me. He who has found his life will lose it, and he who has lost his life for My sake will find it. (Matthew 10:34โ€“39)..

So if you take this metaphoricaly, Jesus preached division of families!!!, I am not saying he s wrong, but you mst agree that jesus is implying that you cannot have peace with a people who are against Gods law.

          2. Hannibal Avatar

He is simply saying love your God more than anyone and you will find peace. This is a unity message through God NOT an invitation to killing others who differ in their faiths.

          3. That is not what he meant , anyway ,
            Pacifism is harmful
To let someone murder when it is in your power to stop them is completely contrary to our moral sentiments. If a Hitler is on the move and seeking to bind the world in tyranny and destroy entire ethnic groups, it would seem very clearly wrong not to oppose him with force (which sometimes is the only effective method). It is true that war itself is harmful and tragic; but pacifism would result in even more harm to the world because it would give wicked people virtually free reign. We of course must be open to letting the Bible transform our moral sentiments, but this observation should at least cause us to pause and reflect more deeply before concluding that Jesus is intending to teach pacifism.

Consistent pacifism would have to eliminate the police, not just the military
In fact, if we were to conclude that governments should always turn the other cheek and never resist evil, then we would be logically committing ourselves to getting rid of not only the armed forces, but also the police force and criminal justice system. For police officers arrest criminals, using force against them if necessary, and put them in jail. That is not turning the other cheek. Does Jesus intend his command to turn the other cheek to apply to the police? Surely not as their primary way of responding to evil. God does not want evil to run about in our society unchecked (cf. in the OT the numerous civil laws and in the NT Romans 13, to be discussed below). If one accepts the legitimacy of police using force in some instances, there can be no objection to the military using force in some instances, either.

            Luke 3:14 allows military service
It is significant that John the Baptist did not tell the soldiers to leave the military when they asked him what it meant to repent: “And some soldiers were questioning him, saying, ‘And what about us, what shall we do?’ And he said to them, ‘Do not take money from anyone by force, or accuse anyone falsely, and be content with your wages’” (Luke 3:14). Since it is, therefore, possible to live a godly life and yet be in the military, it must be because engaging in war is not always sinful.

John 18:36 acknowledges the right of the sword to earthly kingdoms
In this passage, Jesus says: “My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, then My servants would be fighting, that I might not be delivered up to the Jews; but as it is, My kingdom is not of this realm.” When Jesus says that if his kingdom were of this world his servants would be fighting, he implies that it is right for kingdoms of this world to fight when the cause is just and circumstances require it. As Christians, we are citizens of “two kingdoms”–our country on earth, and heaven. Jesus shows us that it is never right to fight for the sake of his spiritual kingdom, but that it is right to fight on behalf of earthly kingdoms (when necessary to counter evil and destruction).

Romans 13:3-4 grants governments the right to use force to restrain and punish evil
Paul writes: “For rulers are not a cause of fear for good behavior, but for evil. Do you want to have no fear of authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same; for it is a minister of God to you for good. But if you do what is evil, be afraid; for it does not bear the sword for nothing; for it is a minister of God, an avenger who brings wrath upon the one who practices evil.”

Here Paul affirms the government’s right to use force in two ways. First, he says that it “does not bear the sword for nothing.” Second, he states that government is a “minister of God” when it executes vengeance against evildoers.

Governments, of course, do not have the right to use force for any purpose whatsoever. They do not have the right to use force in order to lord it over their citizens and impose unnecessary restraints upon freedom. There are two purposes for which this text says the government is justified in using force: the restraint of evil and the punishment of evil. The purpose of force is not just to prevent further evil from happening, but to punish evil acts by bringing the perpetrators to justice. Government is acting as a “minister of God” when it serves as “an avenger who brings wrath upon the one who practices evil.”

Does the right of the sword in this text extend to the case of war? The immediate context does have in mind the use of physical force in regard to a government’s own citizens. But by extension this also implies that if one nation commits an act of war against another nation, the offended nation has the right to engage in self-defense and to avenge the wrong. Would it be consistent to say that a nation has a right to restrain and punish evil committed against it by its own citizens, but not to restrain and punish evil committed against it by another nation? The mere fact that the civil offense was committed by another country does not remove their accountability to the country they attacked.

1 Peter 2:13-4 confirms the teaching of Romans 13:3-4
In 1 Peter 2:13-14, we are taught: “Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human institution, whether to a king as the one in authority, or to governors as sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and the praise of those who do right.” Once again, the right of governments to punish evil is affirmed.

Is it right for a Christian to fight in a war?
Since the Scriptures teach that it is right for a nation to engage in a just war, it follows that it is therefore right for a Christian to fight in such a war. Some have argued that non-Christians may fight in wars but believers may not, but this distinction is not found in Scripture. Scripture teaches that it is not sin for a government to engage in a just war, and there is therefore nothing that forbids Christian from being involved in just wars.

            See Wikipedia:
In English, the ‘dogs of war’ is a phrase from Act 3, Scene 1, line 273 of William Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar: “Cry ‘Havoc!’, and let slip the dogs of war”. Dog has its ordinary meaning; havoc is a military order permitting the seizure of spoil after a victory, and ‘let slip’ is to release from the leash.
Shakespeare’s source for Julius Caesar was The Life of Marcus Brutus from Plutarch’s Lives and the concept of the war dog appears in that work, in the section devoted to the Greek warrior Aratus.

Read the rest of that entry … interesting. English has also changed over time. (largely by lazy Americans …. hehehe) But languages evolve as do the the people speaking them – usually, but not always, for the better – and to include newly invented words of scientific discoveries. (why try to translate ‘computer’?)
Some languages die along with the people who speak them …. except for interest in history by some ‘purists’ who attempt to translate ‘feelings’ from one century to another. (not possible)

God does not like killing… Jesus is the message and the path… Which is a better creation? One born of a woman who married many and fathered many whose descendents are slaughtering one another? OR a creation by God filled with the Holy Spirit who never sinned and never preached violence? Really it is an easy pick.

You shall make no covenant with them and show no favor to them. 3 Furthermore, you shall not intermarry with them; you shall not give your [c]daughters to [d]their sons, nor shall you take [e]their daughters for your [f]sons. 4 For [g]they will turn your [h]sons away from [i]following Me to serve other gods; then the anger of the Lord will be kindled against you and He will quickly destroy you. 5 But thus you shall do to them: you shall tear down their altars, and smash their sacred pillars, and hew down their [j]Asherim, and burn their graven images with fire.,
