A Syrian national was transferred to a hospital in North Lebanon after stepping on landmine in Bqaiaa along the border with Syria, the National News Agency reported on Monday.

The NNA identified the injured Syrian man as Ahmad Kh., adding that his leg was blown off by the landmine at the Al-Naoura border crossing.

In past months Syria has planted mines along Lebanese-Syrian border to prevent refugees streaming in to Lebanon.

Syria has witnessed anti-regime protests since mid-March 2011. The United Nations estimated that more than 9,000 people have been killed in the regime’s crackdown on dissent.
