Lebanon Minister of Interior Marwan Charbel denied on Thursday that the investigators of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon ( STL) who are probing the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri requested the fingerprint records of some Lebanese citizens.
“What some media reported that STL investigators requested the fingerprints of some Lebanese, is not true,” Charbel told Hezbollah’s al-Manar television on Thursday
His comments come after As Safir newspaper which is closely linked to Hezbollah reported that the minister refused to hand the STL investigators the fingerprints of some Lebanese citizens because he “can’t evade the legal framework that organizes such requests.”
According to As Safir report, Charbel said the STL cooperation protocol states that any request like this must be submitted to the general prosecution directorate.
STL indicted four Hezbollah operatives last June , however, the Shiite group has repeatedly said the court is a US-Israeli plot targeting the Resistance and refuses to cooperate with it.
