Telecommunications Minister Nicolas Sahnawi told New TV on Sunday that his group is not opposed to expanding Hezbollah’s telecommunication network.
Sahnawi represents in the government the Change and Reform bloc which is headed by MP Michel Aoun , a close ally of the Iranian and Syrian backed Hezbollah militant group .
“The Change and Reform bloc “supports the expansion of Hezbollah’s network because it is essential in the confrontation with Israel.” He said
Last month MTV television station reported that Hezbollah threatened the residents of the upper Metn town of Tarshish with a May 7, 2008 type attack after the municipality prevented the party members from installing a telecommunications network in the town.
In May 2008, Hezbollah occupied the western part of Beirut and tried to occupy Mt Lebanon when the cabinet of former PM Fouad Siniora decided to remove the party’s telecommunications network .
