Turkish PM says set to unveil Syria sanctions plan

Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan said on Tuesday he would set out his country’s plans for sanctions against Syria after he visits a Syrian refugee camp near the border in the coming days, stepping up pressure on President Bashar al-Assad.

The move heralds a further deterioration in previously friendly relations between Ankara and Damascus since the start of Assad’s crackdown on protesters.

“Regarding sanctions, we will make an assessment and announce our road map after the visit to Hatay, setting out the steps,” Erdogan told reporters, adding he expected to visit the region at the weekend or the start of next week.

Some 7,000 Syrians have taken refuge in camps established in Hatay, having fled the violence at home.

Erdogan said last month that Assad would be ousted by his people “sooner or later” and warned that Syria could slide into a sectarian civil war between Alawites and Sunnis.

At least 2,700 have been killed in the crackdown in Syria, according to a U.N. count. Demonstrators have begun to demand some form of international protection that stops short of Libya-style Western military intervention.

  1. Assad today claimed that if attacked by NATO, that immediately he would move thousands of rockets towards the Golan, and along with Hezbollah will attack Tel Aviv., and on top of that Iran will strike US and EU forces and interests in the area. These monsters will do anything to keep power.
He needs to be taken down now before he does something that jeopardizes your entire country, because I promise you this right now, If any of this were to materialize, Iran and quite possibly Syria will be a occupied smoking ruin, and I’m not talking what Israel does in retaliation, Im saying what we will do.And I dont want that to happen.

Better put your leaders in check.

Turkey’s too, he has single handily in less than a year blown any chance of EU membership, while verbally attacking several other countries and preaching to protect the Pals while he slaughters Kurds.. Kinda figure this dumb*ss while end up trying something against Cypress as well.Another failed Middle East loser dictator.

the timing is playing well in the butcher’s hands…the world is not prepared to go to war because of many aspects…Assad knows this and he is giving warning left and right knowing full well he would not stand a chance…

anyway everyone seems to just presenting the syrian pple with oral gifts but not much substance or real actions….intentional perhaps? i dunno….

this situation is getting more and more complex…while many pple are being slaughtered on the streets and anywhere else in syria now.

      1. I fear more that he wouldn’t attack Israel to save himself(knowing the country would be destroyed),Im scared that he will resort to chemical weapons at some point somewhere, and personally I dont think my country even under Obama will stand for that. It has to end. He must go. Iran…YOUR NEXT

Not sure ‘your country’ can afford trying to ‘straighten out’ the Middle East any more …. better to forget the place.
Looks more and more like an expansion of Somalia and crackpot theoretical islamists – like the ‘al-Shabab’ group who blow up and burn school children in Mogadishu. If they won’t accept even the free food from the ‘aid agencies’ the west supplies then why bother? Starving out a few million might help ‘Mother Earth’ anyway … since their clear-cutting of the forests there to make charcoal for Saudi Arabia barbecues is what caused the droughts anyway. Let them all sort it out.
