An Nahar reported on Sunday that Amal Movement leader Speaker Nabih Berri boycotted the mediation meeting with Prime Minister-designate Najib Mikati by not sending his political aide Ali Hassan Khalil to the meeting. Only Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah’s political aide Hajj Hussein Khalil attended the meeting .

This was a tit for tat move by Berri who was reportedly angered by Mikati’s decision to boycott the parliamentary session scheduled for June 8.

This is reportedly the first time that both Khalils don’t meet Mikati together.

Berri’s aide reportedly talked to Mikati over the phone.

Berri also yesterday suddenly canceled a planned meeting he had with Mikati and left to his country home in Musaileh , south Lebanon.

An Nahar reported that the discussion between Hezbollah aide and Mikati covered generalities. Mikati did not receive the list of names for the ministries from Hezbollah or MP Michel Aoun as promised.

Parliamentary session

On Friday Mikati , and his two allies MPs Mohammad Safadi, Ahmad Karami decided to boycott the parliament session that Speaker Nabih Berri called for next week, National News Agency reported on Friday.

The MPs’ decision is based on their conviction that divisions must not be widened between the Lebanese people, the NNA also said, adding that their decision aims “to maintain the role of institutions.”

This comes after LBC reported that MP Walid Jumblatt and his bloc decided to boycott the parliamentary session

Mikati, Safadi and Karami voiced the importance of joining efforts to speed up cabinet formation.

Speaker Nabih Berri called for the session in order to bypass the caretaker cabinet, despite strong opposition by some parties.
