Deal reached on new Lebanon cabinet, report

Lebanon Files website quoted March 8 sources as saying that a deal was struck on a new Lebanon cabinet as follows:

The cabinet will have 30 portfolios

Change and reform block of MP Michel Aoun: 10 portfolios

Hezbollah, Amal, SSNP , Talal Arslan: 9 portfolios

President Suleiman , PM designate Nagib Mikati and MP Walid Jumblatt : 11 portfolios

The discussions now are revolving around the names of the ministers .

The ministry of interior will be included in the share of president Suleiman . It appears that Aoun lost this battle . It also appears that the centrist block which is headed by President Suleiman has a blocking third .

Beirut analysts are questioning why Jumblatt is included in the the centrist blocs , specially since he has been openly talking about being a member of the March 8 alliance.

On Sunday Jumblatt revealed that his PSP engineers voted along with Hezbollah, Amal and Free patriotic Movement for the March 8 candidates in the engineering syndicate elections of Beirut . He reportedly even sent PSP MP Wael Abou Faour to Hezbollah and Aoun to thank them for their cooperation during the syndicate elections.

The The Iranian and Syrian -backed Hezbollah brought down PM Saad Hariri’s government on January 12 over the Special Tribunal for Lebanon’s (STL) imminent indictment which is widely expected to implicate Hezbollah members in the assassination of former PM Rafik Hariri in 2005

Mikati was appointed in January as the PM designate with the backing of the Hezbollah March 8 alliance and MPs Walid Jumblatt and Mohammad Safadi . March 14 leaders have repeatedly said that intimidation from Hezbollah’s weapons helped secure the parliamentary majority for Mikati’s nomination.

Jumblatt and his PSP parliament members reportedly switched allegiance to Hezbollah’s PM candidate, following threats by Hezbollah.

Jumblatt, Mikati and Safadi were all elected on March 14 electoral tickets during the 2009 parliamentary elections.

Whether cabinet is formed or not it will not change anything on the ground. The truth is this so called upcoming government is doomed to fail because of the hightened contradictions on all fronts.

It will be another ineffective government.

“Change the changeable, accept the unchangeable, and remove yourself from the unacceptable.” is a famous quote by Denis Waitley. So we ,who left the country, have removed ourselves from the unacceptable.

it is interesting how we are seeing the formation of a govt now when things are looking to come to a conclusion in syria next door.

    3abass….lebanon is 3abass.

urtet 7ramiyeh w kezzabeen w mujremeen are officially made ministers while the poeple they claim they represent are leaving the country in bulk…w kaman 7atta law we “remove ourselve from the unacceptable” lek le72ouna la barra..

we thought we had a chance after 2005 in living in respect like other pple everywhere else on this planet and believed things have changed and is different this time…but nothing has changed.

our dreams were made fun off arrogantly, we were told we have no right to dream we should stay real.

real…reality is that lebanese are the ones who should always accept interfeerence by foreigners.
reality is that the lebanese are the ones who should always pay the price for other’s cowardness.
reality is…there have never been really a lebanon…it is just a strategic ground for foreign football matches.

some call in the name of human rights while others in the name of arab unity but at the same time send messages of support to tyrants and put their hands in the hands of blatant theives and criminals to rule over people they know nothing about.

and so syrian regime once again laid its hands on lebanon.

the regime who promising its own pple reform but at the same time killing them.

i dunno if we are to live for another time to see another chance for change.

but even in the future if that chance did come, we will still not grab it. you know why? because we are 7ameer.

it is not these criminals and theives fault that we are made to beg for work overseas while the resources in our own country are being stolen by these thugs and our neighbour next door, but it is the fault of ourselves, ne7na el 7ameer.

“Truly, God does not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves.” (Quran 13:11)
