David Schenker a senior fellow in Arab politics at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy told Al Rai newspaper that the the US State department issued the travel advisory against travel to Lebanon , primarily because of what is happening in Syria.

The US is reportedly very concerned that the Syrian regime may try to divert attention from the demonstrations in Syria by creating havoc in Lebanon through its allies . This according to Schenker can destabilize Lebanon and make it a dangerous place to travel to. He said the Obama administration is finally beginning to understand the mentality of the Assad regime.

Schenker added any “security shock in Lebanon could destabilize the whole region”

The United states issued today a travel warning urging its citizens to avoid all travel to Lebanon.
