Following the Change and Reform bloc’s meeting meeting Aoun launched an attack against Lebanon caretaker PM Saad Hariri : “Lebanon cannot continue with the Hariri’s policy which is destroying Lebanon”, he said .
The Change and Reform bloc’s meeting was chaired by the bloc’s leader, MP Michel Aoun, according to National News Agency NNA,
NNA added that Marada Movement leader MP Suleiman Franjieh and Lebanese Democratic Party leader MP Talal Arslan , who usually participate in the bloc’s meetings were absent from today’s meeting.
Commenting on on New TV’s audiotape broadcast Aoun said: “Prosecutor Saeed Mirza is a collaborator. This is why it is not possible for a prime minister who has been condemned to be re-named as prime minister.” He called on the judiciary to investigate the broadcast.
The New TV audiotape shows a meeting between Hariri, Internal Security Forces Information Branch chief Wissam al-Hassan, a United Nations International Independent Investigation Commission official and Mohammad Zuhair Siddiq—who has been accused of misleading the investigation into the 2005 assassination of former PM Rafik Hariri.
According to the tape, Siddiq told Hariri that the international commission should name six Syrians and four Lebanese in the murder of his father, Rafik Hariri.
The former Syrian intelligence agent also hinted that Damascus was behind the killing. But Hariri asked for proof of Syria’s alleged involvement.
Commenting on MP Walid Jumblatt’s over the issue of nominating a PM to head the new cabinet he said : I tell my friend and colleague Walid Jumblatt that he cannot split himself otherwise he would be returning to the wrong position and added :Jumblatt has not told us yet on who he will support for premiership . I advice him not to make a mistake.”
This comes after it was revealed that Jumblatt could not convince the members of his Democratic gathering bloc to vote for the opposition. This has reportedly angered Syria and Hezbollah who were counting on Jumblatt’s bloc votes in replacing Hariri as the Lebanese PM .
Aoun added : Anyone who stands alongside Hariri participates in the eruption of the current situation. He also revealed that his bloc will be meeting today to decide on a candidate for the premiership and that his name will be revealed following consultations on Monday
Commenting on the STL indictments he said : “We do not fear a hundred indictments. They should pay attention to the timing of the issuance of the indictments with the parliamentary consultations on Monday.”
According to LBC the indictments by the the prosecutor of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon have been already submitted to the pretrial judge
Commenting on NEW TV audiotape, Hariri’s office described it as “intelligence work” adding that the interview that was aired was at the request of the (U.N.-backed) investigation committee.
Hariri renamed as Future candidate
In a related development Future Movement parliamentary bloc on Sunday renamed Saad Hariri as its PM candidate.
“Future Movement l named Hariri as its candidate for the premiership,” MP Atef Majdalani announced following a meeting of the Movement at Hariri’s Center House.
The meeting was chaired by caretaker PM Saad Hariri.
