Syrian President Bashar Assad told reporters in Madrid that Damascus has agreed with Lebanon on the demarcation of the maritime boundaries.

“Lebanon and Syria agreed on the demarcation of maritime boundaries in order to determine the right to gas fields for each side in the future,” he said.

Assad arrived in Spain on Sunday on a two-day official visit that follows a tour of Latin America.

On Sunday he had dinner with King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia at the royal palace.

On Monday, Assad held talks with Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero.

His visit follows a tour of Latin America that took him to Venezuela, where he met President Hugo Chavez, as well as Cuba, Brazil and Argentina.
