Zahle MP Okab Sakr told MTV on Sunday that the Lebanese Association for Democratic Elections (LADE) has noted security interferences in the municipal and Mukhtar elections in Zahle, but added that the incidents will not affect Zahle voters.
Zahle bloc MP Joseph Maalouf and Kataeb bloc MP Elie Marouni accused former General Security chief Jamil as-Sayyed who supports Popular Bloc leader Elias Skaff’s electoral list—of interfering in the elections.
Sakr said that the interference in the Zahle elections favors Skaff, adding that such open meddling damages political institutions.
A return to the past state of affairs will not be permitted, he said, adding that electoral decisions in Zahle belong to the city’s people.
