Aoun: FPM’s boycott behind low voter turnout in Beirut

Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun said during a press conference in Rabieh on Sunday that his party’s boycott of municipal elections in Beirut this weekend is behind the low voter turnout in the capital.

“However, I ask all my constituents to participate fully in the Mukhtar elections,” Aoun told reporters.

With reference to the election in Zahle he said we “nominated Antoine Abi Younes in Zahle as a means for a referendum to see who the people would vote for.

Meanwhile head of ‘Beirut Unity’ Electoral List Bilal Hamad accused the FPM leader of attempting to restore sectarianism in Lebanon through “dividing Beirut”.

At around 3:40 m Future TV reported that Hezbollah supporters started to massively head toward polling stations in Beirut.
