Future bloc MP Mohammad Qabbani told the Voice of Lebanon radio station on Monday that his bloc would only support a consensus list of candidates for the upcoming municipal elections in Beirut so as to ensure the proper development of the city.
“The Beirut municipal elections will maintain the custom set by former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri,” said Qabbani, a reference to equal Christian-Muslim representation in the city’s municipal council.
Qabbani added that any agreement reached between the Future Movement and the Free Patriotic Movement over Beirut’s municipal elections will be announced to the public.
This comes after PM Saad Hariri met with FPM leader MP Michel Aoun and Energy Minister Gebran Bassil late March in Rabieh to discuss the upcoming elections.
