Following his meeting with Prime Minister Saad Hariri at the Grand Serail on Tuesday, Amal Movement MP Ali Hassan Khalil denied rumors that the upcoming municipal elections would be postponed for a year. He added his bloc was not behind the idea of delaying the elections.
Khalil denied media reports that Speaker Nabih Berri called for addressing municipal elections, the 2010 state budget and the cabinet’s upcoming administrative appointments “as a single package.”
He also said that the cabinet’s legal responsibility in calling on the public to vote by April 2 is different from the parliament’s role in studying the bill, adding that the parliament still has 15 working days to finalize its decision on the municipal reforms.
