In an interview with Aljazeera, former Lebanese president and Phalange party leader Amin Gemayel said “nothing has been fully resolved in Lebanon ” adding : “We are still at the height of the crisis and I am still afraid for the future”, warning that “the situation in Lebanon is still open to all possibilities and is still at a crossroad that we do not know where it will lead us to . ”
Gemayel said “the government today is a collection of rivals and competitors, and we do not know whether they will be able to cooperate as needed”
In response to a question about his party’s relationship with Hezbollah he said : “The Phalange party wants Hezbollah to clearly clarify when its loyalty to Lebanon ends and when its loyalty to Iran starts ” adding” When Hezbollah responds to this question this will spell the end of our quarrel, ” . By loyalty to Iran Gemayel meant ” the correlation of Hezbollah’s forces with the Iranian military strategy” .
Gemayel reconfirmed that Israel is the number one enemy of Lebanon and the whole region and said Lebanon has suffered the most from Israeli aggression.
Gemayel urged the Arab countries to agree on a common strategy to confront the Israeli threats and urged Palestinians reconciliation ” because the future of their cause is in trouble if they remain divided”
