Minister of Social Affairs Selim Sayegh told MTV on Tuesday: “The timing of certain Lebanese officials’ visit to Brad is inappropriate, particularly because relations between Lebanon and Syria are not normalized.” He added that the trips imply there are two different Maronite celebrations for Saint Maroun’s Day.
Sayegh is referring to Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun, Marada Movement leader MP Sleiman Franjieh and former President Emile Lahoud who headed to Syria to celebrate the occasion in Brad , near Aleppo.
All the top 3 Lebanese leaders attended the mass that was held by Maronite Patriarch Nasrallah Sfeir at Saint George Cathedral in downtown Beirut.
