Prime Minister Saad Hariri expressed solidarity with quake-stricken Haiti on Thursday and said Lebanon would contribute to international aid that is already flooding the Caribbean nation.
“This human tragedy pushes up to comfort” Haiti’s people “and participate in international efforts to remove the traces of the disaster,” Hariri said in a statement. The PM urged the Lebanese people and Lebanese expatriates to give a helping hand to Haiti and participate in the international relief in the form of humanitarian, medical and social aid. The issue of Lebanese aid to Haiti will be discussed during the next cabinet session, Hariri announced.
Some 100,000 are feared to have perished in Tuesday’s 7.0 magnitude earthquake, the strongest to hit Haiti in more than a century. Hariri sent condolences to the country’s president and cabinet over the victims of the quake. (Naharnet)
