Lebanese aid plane to leave to Haiti Tuesday

An official Lebanese delegation is expected to head to Haiti Tuesday on board MEA flight no, 9004 from Beirut airport along with 35 tons of medical aid , food and other items to the Lebanese community.

The delegation includes Commission Yahya Raad, secretary general of the Higher Relief Commission , Fadi Fawwaz consultant to Prime Minister Saad Hariri , consul Walid Haidar from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ali Khalifeh, representative of the Health Ministry , as well as medical and media teams. The medical teams include physicians from the ministry of health will transfer some of the injured to Beirut for treatment.

UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon Michael Williams warmly welcomed Lebanon’s initiative . “Lebanon’s support is critical at this moment for Haiti. It is an act of solidarity and underlines Lebanon’s commitment as an active partner in the international community. ” He said

In Haiti there are reportedly about 8000 people of Lebanese origin

The delegation is expected to return Thursday to Beirut
