President Milos Zeman of the Czech Republic appointed a new center-left government on Wednesday, ending a protracted period of political paralysis that has destabilized the country.
The freshly installed prime minister, Bohuslav Sobotka, 42, has pledged to shepherd the country toward stability following a corruption scandal last summer that forced Prime Minister Petr Necas to resign. A subsequent interim government failed to win parliament’s confidence. Mr. Sobotka, a Social Democrat, has pledged to combat some austerity measures of previous conservative governments.
