Lebanese Caretaker Interior Minister Marwan Charbel expressed concern that more car bombs might target various regions in Lebanon, especially after the twin explosions that targeted Tripoli on Friday and the one that rocked the Beirut area of Dahieh last week.
“There might be explosions in other Lebanese regions [too],” Charbel told Kuwaiti newspaper As-Seyassah.
“There are difficulties that are preventing [us] from providing enough security to all Lebanese regions.”
The minister also noted that “those who are behind the explosion in Dahieh are the same who planted the car bombs in Tripoli.”
He admitted that not much be done to prevent the attacks from happening :
“There is no country in the whole world that can protect its security entirely,” he said , adding without elaborating : “Strife is being devised for the whole of Lebanon and not just one region.”
Two explosions rocked the northern Lebanese city of Tripoli on Friday afternoon, leaving at least 45 people dead and 900 injured.
The explosions took place outside the Al-Taqwa Mosque in the city’s Al-Zahiriya area and the Al-Salam Mosque in the Al-Mina neighborhood.
Also, a car bomb went off last week on the main road between the Al-Rueiss and Bir al-Abed areas of Hezbollah’s Beirut stronghold of Dahieh, leaving 27 people dead and at least 336 injured.
