Over 200 people gathered in Laval,a suburb of Montreal on Sunday evening, to protest against the presence of MP Michel Aoun, leader of the Free Patriotic Movement according to a report by TVA Nouvelles.
General Aoun was accompanied by his son-in-law Lebanese energy minister Gibran Bassil during a reception that was held Le Château Royal hotel.
The demonstrators accused Aoun of supporting the Iranian and Syrian regimes.
“The current policy of General Aoun fosters a culture of violence and death, and that is why we are here tonight,” said Fadi, a protester who took part in the rally on Sunday.
The protesters waved several Lebanese flags and placards and chanted hostile remarks about General Aoun.
One placard read: “Whoever incites killing is a killer”
Despite the lively crowd, the gathering was peaceful.
The event was organized by a group affiliated with the Montreal Cedar Revolution.
Aoun is closely allied with the Iranian and Syrian backed Hezbollah militant group.
The Cedar Revolution erupted on March 14 , a month after former PM Rafik Hariri was assassinated .
Four members of Hezbollah have been indicted in Hariri’s murder by the UN backed international court Special Tribunal for Lebanon , but Hezbollah refused to cooperate with the court and did not hand over the suspects
